You have what is apparently a standard military issue Luger made in 1917 by "DeutchWaffen und Munitionsfabriken", or DWM as stamped on the forward toggle joint. Translated, the name means German Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers.

The grips are considered to be checkered. The serial number should appear on the front of the frame and will likely have a small case letter under the number. The letter is a suffix and part of the serial number. The serial number, sans the suffix letter, will also be on the left forward side of the receiver. Other small parts will have the last two digits of the serial number stamped on them. They should all match. Most magazines will not match the serial number of the gun. If it does, you are fortunate.

The Eagle over "T" stamp has me curious. Can you post a picture of it or at least describe it more completely and state precisely where on the gun it's stamped?

Steve, Welcome to the Lugerforum... please use lowercase to type your posts as all uppercase is perceived as SHOUTING...

Thanks... and we are looking forward to seeing your photos...
