Powders vs Velocity

Hugh had posted some chronographed loads and seemed like Hercules (now Alliant) Unique was the best overal for most barrel lengths 4"-8". I am hoping he will repost the info. The interesting thing I remember was that the 6" barrel Lugers produced about the same velocity as the 8" model with standard loadings. A heavy load with slower powder might show more promise in the longer barrel. The heavier barrels seems to need a little more recoil energy to work the action properly. Most Artilleries I fire with standard ammo eject really softly and just drop the empties right at my feet. Easy to collect the brass but just doesn't seem right no me!

From Emails with Mr Clark, yeh right....., today indicates tests were only in 7.65 mm Parabellum so perhaps we can get a repeat with the 9mm and request a posting of both caliber results.
