SHOOTING TESTS
Anybody ever tried an accuracy ( bench rest type...)side by side comparison of those two great GERMAN PISTOLS: the P-08 & the P-38?
Popular saying goes to the LUGER but I have an 1943 Commercial HP that is one hell of an accurate gun..... kidvett |
I shoot many P.38s and P-08s in my reworks and field testing. The AVERAGE LUGER will normally be more accurate than the AVERAGE P.38. Occasionally a P.38 will be very accurate, but as a whole the Luger is more accurate, IMO. I think this however is a closer contest than many realize. The P.38 has much better trigger and sights IMO which helps it gain some,

I consider 2.5" group at 25 yds about normal for a 4" barreled Luger. The last one I fired put 4 out of 5 into a ragged hole, amazing. This Luger was sold pretty quickly and had the best original WWI barrel I have seen so far. http://members.rennlist.com/lugerman/AGETarget.JPG

I shoot a Luger and three different P38's along with a Radom on a regular basis. The P-08 (A 41/42 date dipped import) edges out the P38's (AC44, BYF 43 and Spreewerke)everytime. The BYF 43 is my best shooter with the AC44 being the worst. I think the Luger is more accurate because of the barrel and frame relationship. This Luger also has the best single action pull of just about any wartime gun I have, although I am not sure if it was tweeked a bit after the Russions reworked it.

You guys need to BACK OFF!! The Luger sights were originally designed to be on 'zero' at 50 meters. That is why your hits are all too high, try it and see what happens. Geez, give the Luger a chance to do it's thing.

Herb, you and I know that you don't use a pistol at 50 meters, , you use a rifle, bazooka or tank!
I have shot at 50 meters for qualification many times, but I like the combat qualification much better, you shoot left and right handed at 10 meters, and further distances also. Very fun, and a pain shooting with the left hand when you are right handed! |
Rick W.,
Thanks very much for posting the published Ransom rest Luger accuracy data. For the record, could you tell us the name of the publication and date of the article? |
