Hi To all! Any of the members that have had wood bottoms installed in their MEG-GAR mag's by me.... please check and see if I installed the front retaining pin in your mag... on some of the latest mags I didn't install the second pin as I have thought to this point it was unnecessary....WELL, I WAS WRONG! With my new spring and the wood bottom, it certainly imparts a lot of force on the bottom, and I've had a report of a failure! And the second pin is a necessity if you're going to shoot them fully loaded! I'll effect the repair, and pay the postage both ways for this repair! Or if you wish to effect the repair yourself, i will forward the pins to you, also at no charge!

Was just wondering. When testing the spring function of a magazine, it's difficult to tell whether spring tension is okay or not (apart from the really bad ones, of course).

Is there a simple test or can a simple testing device be developed for that purpose? As mag spring failure appears to be the numero uno cause for feeding problems, it's pretty important to check magazine spring pressure, I'd say.

Oh, and GT, I wouldn't worry too much. In order to drop to GM levels, you'd have to sell cardboard magbottoms :)

Hi Gerben! pressed paper mag. bottoms would certainly put me right in there with the big boys! :) But, your testing idea has a lot of merit! I think a simple compression/deflection test would be adaquate... the parameters would take a bit of shop time to arrive at, but it's a great idea! Best to you! til....lat'r.....GT

Oops! False alarm! It was a MEC-GAR plastic base that failed, not one of my wood bottoms... I misunderstood completely!! But, I am relieved that it turns out that way... In 20 + years of this little quest, I have never had one fail like that! So, you can probably understand why i was alarmed! But, the recall on the MEC-GAR installed wood bottoms still stands, as I believe I should have double pinned them in the first place!
