"shooting grips"
I decided recently to try and optain aftermarket grips to use when I shoot my Lugers--the original grips seemed a little fragile. I did get some very usable ones from a couple of sources. Both of these grips were very "full" and had the coarser checkering. After some fitting with a Dremmel tool and a file, the grips were on the guns and ready to go shooting. They worked well, and I wasn't worried about them getting damaged or having a "safety chip" re-occur. When I got home, I cleaned the guns and put the orignal grips back on (for display). I purchased one set of grips from Nurmrich, and the other from a company I found easily on an internet search (I can't remember the name right now). I was wondering if anyone else does this "shooting grips" thing.

Yes, I replace my wood grips with the brown plastic East German grips when I go shooting.
These grips fit my Imperial Lugers well and are inexpensive; found my last pair at a gun show here for $8.00 in perfect condition. I have seen them offered for as much as $30.00, but I think that is the high point. Luke |
Doug, I have the brown plastic DDR grips as well as the Russian black checkered or grooved plastic replacements in stock @$15/set or choice of 2 sets (one set must be the E.German, but mixed OK) @$25 + $5 priority S&H. Tom Heller POB 398 St.Charles, MO. 63302.

Hi,
I use Russian grips (tokarev style) on my S/42 and modified VoPo grips on my Dutch 1906 model with grip safety. VoPo grips can easily be cut to accept a grip safety since they are hollow. VoPo grips are very comfortable shooting grips. |
Thanks Tom, I'll keep that in mind the next time I need some "shooting grips". OK--I'll admit my ignorance: What is "VoPo"?

Doug,
"VOPO" are the brown plastic grips with the "bullseye" insignia on them. They were issued with the rebuilt VOPO (East German Police) Lugers. Nil-Griff sells excellent new grips made in Germany that are virtually identical to the originals. However, they are somewhat expensive! |
VOPO is an acronym for "Volks Polizei" or People's Police...

Thanks for the great photos Pete... these EG grips are my favorite for shooting. They are quality made, fit rather well on most vintage Lugers, and you don't have to worry about cracking or damaging your originals... I like them better than the Russian vertical grooved type of replacement grips.

If anybody finds a VOPO without grips. Pete stole them. :D

VOPO's were my favorite shooter grips...until I ran across the French ARRO grips from the 1950-60's (???).
Found a brown pair, first, and then a few months later found a black pair... http://forums.lugerforum.com/lfupload/arro_grips2.jpg http://forums.lugerforum.com/lfupload/arro_grips3.jpg http://forums.lugerforum.com/lfupload/arro_grips4.jpg |
