Correct holster for a given pistol

All,
I am writing this because I was asked by a member of this august body if I had a correct holster for a specific dated Luger.

In general, any holster of the correct military (Army, Navy or LP) or police or private purchase civilian that is contemporary with or pre-dates the date of the pistol is appropriate for the pistol.

This is true because holsters were manufactured, procured and issued as a clothing item rather than a weapons item, just as is done in the U.S. military, e.g. You get your holster from the supply room and it is a part of your CTA-50-901 (Army terminology) gear. You get your pistol from the unit arms room, with no consideration of the date, manufacture or any thing else concerning the holster.

So if you have, for instance, a 1942 dated 4" Army proofed pistol, any 4" military or private purchase holster dated 1942 or earlier would be correct with this piece. The desire of some collectors to have a holster dated the same as the gun is simply a collector's personal wish; it guarantees that the holster is "correct" but it does not preclude other holsters from likewise being correct.

Hello Tom,

I tend to agree. I got impatient waiting for a Krieghoff-stamped holster to come my way, so recently did pick up an excellent condition 1937 brown military holster to rig-up with my S-code HK luger (i.e. 1935-36 gun).

But I would not turn down a decent year-correct holster...especially if found in a dolls & antiques shops for $ 68.00... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

One day, that HK stamped holster might come my way...

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />
