1937 holster question
 

Here's a 41 Luger that's being sold with a 1937 holster. It has the P.O.8 stamped on the holster. I thought they were not marked until 1941. If so, why does this one have the P.O.8 on it?

this is only my opinion... and I am not a holster collector, but the holster looks like a repro to me...

While it shows some handling wear, there doesn't seem to be any stess marks on the top of the belt loops... and the belt loops don't seem to have a "crush" from being formed by being worn on a belt with the weight of a pistol in it...

The buckle may be genuine, but the photographs are not clear enough to make a judgement on that. The fuzzy photographs that accompany some auctions can sometimes be intentional... This collage of photos seems peculiar because the photos of the gun and holster are all fuzzy when looked at under digital magnification but somehow the photo in the right hand lower corner just happens to be sharp enough to see the maker's mark clearly...(a feat the seller says he can't make out)

I don't see anything in the auction ad about return privileges and that is a red flag for me when combined with a statement like ask all questions before you bid.

On the other hand, the byf 41 Luger appears to be a pretty nice one... It is your money... you have to decide how much it is worth to you to get this gun... I would get transaction conditions in writing, and ask for lots of clear photographs before bidding...

I'm sitting here at work semi-bored so I decided to get in on this, too. I looked at the pictures and I would have to call b.s. on his not being able to read the maker's mark on the holster himself. He doesn't commit to the holster's originality. He just says that it and the belt, "Looks like they could be original but I'm not an expert and not sure." He could have said, "Looks like they could be reproductions but I'm not an expert and not sure."

I agree, the lettering is so plain that I might not even have to use my reading glasses if I was looking at the actual holster.

I bought a super 1940 brown holster from this seller and the transaction was quite clean. One must always secure return options in these deals though.

Following the same string though, Sarco and others are offering repro holsters with period maker marks, etc. Has anyone ever collected the "marks" available on these repros? This could at least form the core of a "watch list" to help us all.

I just didn't want to give his name. He should know the difference between an original and a repro. Some people will do anything to sell an item.
