and inside the flap it is stamped: deutche

ka???ruhe 1,b
19?8

Sverre, I can take a stab at it.

Generally WW2 Police holsters were made in Berlin, this part makes it look like it says Karlsruhe: deutches?????en fabrik ka???ruhe 1,b

Which is very possible.

These markings can mean several things, I don't think it is a rework of a military holster.

P.B For the police, P.B. does not have an exact match.

S.B.5532 & 9631 could mean; S = Schutzpolizie (municipal police force) B = Berlin, the or 9631 5532 would the weapon number

Of course it depends on the placement, but I am guessing that the P.B. and then the S.B., were each assigned to a weapon and the holster changed locations, but this is strictly a guess.

So either 1918, 1928 or 1938, I would guess 1928, although 1938 is also possible. If it was 1918, then the holster should show as a rework, as it was after 1918 that this type of holster was used for the police.

so this is a holster made for the police in 1928 or in 1938, any ideas about what its worth and how common this holster is?

Police holsters are not as common as Military Holsters, looking on ebay is a good indication, I see them go from $85-$200, depending on who is bidding. Clear marks, brown color (even more value), all add to value.

I collect police Lugers, so like these kind of holsters.

Sverre, Judging by the stitching holes between the belt loops and the fact that the back panel of the holster does not cover the mag pouch, My best guess is that this was originally a 1918 Artillery holster that was later reworked to a PO8 type for the Police. There should be additional unused stitching holes running down the right side, below the mag pouch, from where the LPO8 cleaning rod pouch was removed. This would lead me to believe that it was made by Deutsche Sighalflaggen-Fabrik of Karsruhe/Berlin TH

yes it has stitchingholes under the mag, and when i look at the stamp inside with Deutsche Signhalflaggen-Fabrik of Karsruhe/Berlin i the back of my head, i can see that this is what it is. are the value the same? and how common are these holsters?

* TH..the range of your insight and experience is truely amazing. Great detective work and/or memory!!
* Coupled with Tom's observation, the flap is sown to the body using an intermediate, attaching strip of leather consistent with WW1 style/vintage holsters.
* Stating the obvious, then, the original 19?8 date is likely 1918.
* IMO, as a general rule of thumb, a Police holster will command approximately 20% above a standard Army style holster of equal condition. A Weimar rework of a WW1 Artillery to Police use is not a common holster seen; but, similarly, not a rare holster. Although correct, the extra rework holes detract from the overall appearance and has to be factored into the basic realistic market price expected.
