THIS IS A PICTURE OF A PICTURE THAT I TOOK AT DACHAU CONCENTRATION CAMP OFFICES MANY, MANY YEARS AGO. UPON A RECENT VISIT, IT AND MANY " CONTROVERSIAL " PHOTOS WERE MISSING. I'M GLAD I THOUGHT TO TAKE IT AS A HISTORICAL LINK TO THE LUGER HOLSTER IS GONE TO TIME. IT CAME WITH MY K. L. LUGER INSIDE (AND A PAIR OF CAMP COLLAR TABS WITH K 6 ON THEM ) FROM A VET THAT WALKED INTO A HOUSTON ASTRO SHOW, MANY YEARS AGO. I STILL HAVE THE GROUPING. I'VE ONLY SEEN 2 IN ALL MY YEARS, BUT I'M SURE THERE ARE MANY MORE. ANY COMMENTS FROM MEMBERS WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANKS......MIKE

In the future it would be appreciated if you would type your posts using both UPPER and lower case... it makes them easier to read, AND UPPER CASE is interpreted by most internet users as SHOUTING...

Welcome abord Mike!! I just got off the phone with Mike after talking him through uploading his picture. He just found out about the Forum at the Tulsa show, so now I hope he will be a regular contributor. He has a ton of period photos and lots of stories (some of them are even true!). I am sure we will enjoy his company and I think he will enjoy ours.

That holster looks like the one shown on page 244 of "Weimar Lugers" by Jan Still for DWM Luger serialized "M10" appears to be a police Luger.

If you look at the two guys on the left, you will see that even though they are "shooting" Lugers, the holsters are for the C96 that evidently have been converted to use with Lugers. (This is obviously a posed picture because if they are actually shooting, I wouldn't want to be in the front row!) The title of Mike's first post is "C96/Luger Holster Conversion". I have never seen such a conversion, so this is really an interesting revelation.

I would not want to start a Pro and Con Discusssion at this late date but I feel that this could have been a practice formation used in Some of the various Attrocities and for possible uprisings.
The rear row in the formation was so placed to step forward and fill the gap for reloading and firearm failure.
A standard military formation to meet mass control problems that was a typical formation of the Central and Eastern European Armies.
A hold over from pre WW-1 Days.
Just My Opinion.
And a beautiful touch up job on a second or third generation picture, Looks as good or better than the original.
It sure must be nice to have the Know how to use these New Fangled Computer Tools!

just my speculation here... but since the formation is so wide and the fact that the soldiers in the rear rank have their pistols elevated... I would respectfully disagree with your assessment... Even in those embittered times... most NCOs took care of their soldiers and to allow the potential of a discharge from a rear rank pistol to wound, kill, or even damage the hearing of a soldier in the front rank would be too risky for this to be anything but a sight alignment training session... at least I would hope that this was the case... :(

What do you say we stick to the subject of Lugers... before we drift off on a subject that I would probably have to nuke... with the delete key...

No problem Viggo An old lifer like me is quick to protect his troops... and I can't think of any kind of training more dangerous than showing folks how to use a pistol (except maybe hand grenade and claymore mine training... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> )

I just thought of something else...

Since they are all wearing what appears to be holsters from another type of pistol that have been modified to carry Lugers... it is likely that this training session occurred right after they were issued the new Lugers to replace the old type pistol...likely Mauser 96's...
