Info on Audley's needed

I found an Audley Luger holster for sale from an estate. I have spoken to the executor and he assured me that it is a Luger holster because it had a Luger in it. The one thing he mentioned that is bothering me is that he mentioned the Luger's magazine has left an impression on the side of the holster. I have a copy of Benders Luger Holsters, pp 541-542 do not show a full body holster. Was there more than one style made ? He did read the patent info off the back to me, so it was clearly made by Audley. Thanks in advance for any info from you all.

Roger, first I'm no expert on Audley Holsters, so I hope some one else will chime in.

That said, the Audley is a specific design that incorporates a spring loaded metal "finger" into the leather holster. This "finger" engages the trigger guard and prevents the pistol from coming out of the holster by accident. There were several different sizes of Audley Holster to cover the sizes of a variety of pistols. I have one for the Walther PP size and it is a very nice piece of workmanship!!

As far as I can tell these were never used in a Military Application as a general rule. I imagine some could have been used in a specialized type mission!!

I think that the executor, being unfamilar with Lugers, has mistaken some part of the pistol as being the magazine. Most likely the toggle knobs or the frame rails would leave an impression on the holster. The only way I can think of for the magazine to make a mark on the holster is if it was removed from the gun and wrapped tightly against the holster for storage.

I have not seen a great many Audleys but none that I have seen, Luger and non-Luger, have had a provision to hold a magazine or had any part of the holster that would come in contact with the magazine. Perhaps another conversation with the executor is in order.

Pure conjecture, but maybe he had another magazine shoved in the holster with the gun. I tend to agree with you, Ron.

Ron is undoubatably right as the grip of a P08 sticks out past the holster with an Audley. Another thing everyone should remember, I have had many Audly's in my shop for repair and owned one but if you intend to put a pistol into the holster it will mar the trigger guard something fierce. Only put a shooter into one, it will ruin a collector grade pistol. Jerry Burney

Amen Jerry!
The Audley was a solution in search of a problem. I have never seen a more mis-conceived holster in my life. Perhaps their relative rarity is a great example of how a free market treats bad ideas.

I know that a lot of police revolver holsters used this finger pressure device... I think it more dangerous than the idea was worth because in a panic... you might not get your finger in the holster "just right" and you would either shoot yourself in the foot or get shot because you couldn't get the gun out of the holster...
