Lugers and FFL
 

Are all Lugers classified as Curios, Collectables and Relics? Is it due to the fact that they haven't been made for a certain number of years? Since it has been years since I had an FFL, I am not sure of what is considered a curio (not that DWM was still manufacturing Lugers when I had an FFL).

Hi Bill,


In short, a C&R firearm is any firearm listed by ATF as such, or any unaltered firearm made fifty or more years ago. Lugers are *mostly* C&R firearms. The Lugers that are not C&R firearms are those made in the 1970's.

The C & R FFL license is obtainable from the BATF at a cost of $30 for four years and takes between three weeks and three months.

C&R Lic is $30 for 3 years. A lot or semi-modern guns are considered curio and relics---Many commerative guns---The Ruger single-six first mod. flat gate for some examples. I believe the 1970's Mauser Luger Carbine is now C&R. Have to check the list to be sure.

Even the 1970s Mauser 06/71s (Swiss Models) are on the C&R list.

Thanks for the responses. I applied last month for the C&R and imagine it will be here shortly (or otherwise). I remember waiting forever for my FFL so, older and more patient, it is not a problem. I was just not sure how many of the pistols I am interested in were covered by the 'list'. Now the search is for Luger 'lay away plans', Luger 'credit card sales', Luger 'low cost loans', and of course Luger accessory dealers that accept PayPal. With today's technology we should be able to carefully inspect a firearm (closeup digital photos), ask questions (email), cover ourselves financially (Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, M.O., checks, etc) and FFL or C&R for the legal part, and safely acquire additions to a collection.
