I was silly enough to jump in for up to $ 95...figured it was a nicely done piece...

Does anyone here think this is not a repro ?

It is unusual for a faker to do a Type II; I would love to see and smell it. When it arrives, would you send it? I can tell you in 10 nanoseconds if it is legit.

Hi Tom,

I was not the "winner"...as I stopped at $ 95.

To get the smell, you will need to get one of those new USB-interfaced scratch & sniff devices for your PC... :D ...kidding of course.

The stitching on this piece looked awfully white...I have not seen many brown type II's, but I recall their stitching to be reddish stained (not via shoe polish...) or dark brown thread...

p.s. If this one is truly an "un-issued" WWI holster (I am sceptical...), maybe from being in storage it would not pick up the tobacco smoke smells and diesel boat grease smells...that you mentioned in Chattanooga.

They had in the description:
"a beautiful postwar reproduction".

Maybe the description was updated later??
or did everybody miss that and think it was original?

I am pretty sure that text was there when the ad was placed. That is why I jumped in for $ 95...figured it was a decent, well made repro...that would look great with one of my 6" shooters.

I cannot fathom why some of the bidders went into the stratosphere with pricing...

That one will re-surface sometime in the not too distant future, artificially aged a bit and alleged to have been found in a Vet's estate.

There is also a beautiful thing more:the holster is marked"HERM FLOHR COLN 1916".There is not a town with the "Coln" name in Germany(the right writing is Koln)!
But the seller told from the beginning it's a repro!

Think it is *only fair* to note that the German (And most of western european) collectors do NOT have the insistence on 100% originality that we Americans do.

It has been my observation in the 1970's. 1980's and 1990's, (When I was there) that the vast majority of European collectors were looking for ANYTHING that would fill a hole in a collection.

Only an observation.

I think that it was changed to "Koln" during the thirties. The Nazis "germanified" the language a bit during their time.
