P-38 holster
Thanks Ed & thanks to you to Leon:
I may have learned something new here. It could be that I have a luger pistol that has spent the last 50 years in a P-38 holster. That May be why the clip does not fit quite perfectly. The holster does not seem to be rigid but rather supple and plyable. However, that could be because it has been kept oiled and conditioned. The belt straps have not been removed. the Luger has is consistently numbered but I can find only 3 digits. 776 It seems surprising there are not more numbers, Or I could be looking in the wrong place. The grips are loose, could use cleaning, and about half of the bluing is no longer on the exterior of the pistol. there are some pok marks from rust. The only date is 1917 and it has German manufactruers markings. I will try to get some pictures of the weapon. Thank you very much for you help and knowledge!!!! Regards Dpark |
Dpark, The three digit serial is common. The Germans started at 1 and went to 9,999. Then adding a suffix letter and starting over again. Alittle more complicated than that but that is the basics. So having a three digit # is fairly common. There should be a full serial # on the front of the frame and under the barrel. Other parts should have the last two digits.
The holster is undoubtably a P-38. Does the magazine pouch have a cutout at the top? By the way welcome to the Forum! Jerry Burney |
