1936 Holster
 

I've got a black hardshell holster on the way for my "G" code S/42 pistol. It's maker marked Gustav Genschow of Berlin and has that droop wing eagle and acceptance stamp and the number 387. Dated 1936. Anybody familiar with this holster maker? Also, what's the going value range of these nowadays?

Genschow was one of the most prolific makers of Luger and P.38 holsters. A 1936 holster, if in nice cond. Can sell for $200+.
Leather prices are going nuts.

Appreciate that. I knew it was legit based on who I'm getting it from but it's always nice to hear a second opinion. :-)

Also...what about a P.38 holster that looks maker marked gcx WaA 930 dated 1941? I assume that's a "g" but the way they did some of those characters makes them hard to read.

Greg, The gcx marked WaA 930 is made by Carl Brettschneider, Maeher-Schoenberg.
I just sold a BYF 42 P.38 rig with a 1942 holster
made by the same maker WaA B17. Very scarce. The WaA B17 was assigned to Brettschneider for only 1-2 months in 1942. They then went back to 930. No one seems to know why, but it is documented.

Greg, Gustof Genschow's trade name is GECO and I believe that they are still in business today. During WW2 they sold many commerical pistols & holsters to officers thru their store and catalog, as well as making PO8 & P38 holsters for the military. I've also seen some post war P38, Star B, FNHP, etc holsters marked GECO. TH

I've seen that GECO name somewhere but can't recall where it was. It was on a holster or other leather item, I believe. I'm looking forward to seeing this 1936 holster as it should go well with my S/42 pistol.

Greg, Have you posted photos of your S/42? We would like to see it, if you haven't. Is it a 1936?

No...I haven't. It's a "G" code so 1935. Being no better than 60% finish I didn't figure the serious gun collectors would be interested in seeing it. But it appealed to me mainly 'cause it's in such top condition mechanically and not a rattle trap like so many guns of that vintage.

But I wouldn't mind posting it. How do I do that?

Greg, There's always interest in Lugers. And possibly somemore to be learned. Your 60% estimate may turn out to be lower than you thought. You may be suprised.It can't hurt.

I uploaded a couple images but now can't find them. I looked in the "gallery" and my search failed to locate them. I tried to register in the "gallery" and got refused so I give up

The only reason you haven't found your photos is that you just failed to follow instructions on the screen after the upload. Try one more time and carefully heed the instructions on the upload screen.

When you successfully upload a photo, you are presented with the image of that photo and directly under it you will see the URL for it's location...

In order to reference a photo you have uploaded in a message post, you must copy and paste that URL into your message post using the "image" tag button of the postreply screen.

The reason you couldn't register into the member gallery, which is a completely separate software package from the Lugerforum, is probably because you attempted to use your Lugerforum screen name to register...you must not use spaces in your user name in the Member Gallery...because that software won't allow it.

Try registering using the name "marinekabar" and you should be successful... Oh, one last thing Greg, you can't have any Pop-up blocker software running when you use the Gallery because you have to interact with it using pop-up dialog boxes...

If you need help uploading and using photos, check out the excellent photo tutorial that is at the top of the Site Help & Feedback forum... it has helped countless members in posting of photos...

GeCo is still a wellknown ammunition brand over here. Have a 1936 holster myself, but the flap is in a really bad condition (flaking leather).

When I bought an old Colt .32ACP pocket pistol a few months ago it came with a handful of "GECO" marked .32 caliber rounds. I shot them and they seemed fine....not sure how old they were.
