Holster query
 

I recently picked up a nice Luger holster but do not know anything about them and would appreciate info. On the front flap there is an SA in an oval
on the back looks like (Ernst?&Kirsten?) Under that it is marked (Taucha) and a waffenamt WaA170. The straps on the back are bradded to the body rather than sewed on, but does not look like it has had the GI modification. No date that I can find. This is my first post on the Luger forum and would appreciate any help.

Is it possible for you to post some photos of the holster... Even with the details you have mentioned, identification would be a sketchy guess without a photo.

You can either post a digital photo from a camera, or scan the holster on a flatbed scanner.

That maker of luger holsters appears commonly on 1939 and 1940 dated holsters. If you look closely, you should see some holes where stitching once was and now brads hold the straps. The brads would not be factory. The SA in an oval is unfamiliar to me. SA in a box with rounded corners appears on holsters used in Finland and many WW2 German luger holsters appear with the Finnish stamp on the lid. I do not know if this means use by the Finns during WW2 or if the holsters were obtained by the Finns post-WW2. The other Finn-marked luger holsters I have observed were dated around 1940.

Yours sounds like a standard military luger holster of the early WW2 period with strengthening of the belt loop attachments.

Here is the front of the holster Marked Taucha on the back with a waffenamt WaA 170 and what looks like the makers name Ernst & Kirsten and a stamped box on the front with SA inside it.

The SA mark on the flap is definitely of the type used by Finland. I think LP08 pretty well nailed the characteristics of your holster. By the way, nice moccasins, and welcome to the forum. [img]biggrin.gif[/img]

Bender's Luger Accessories book identifies the maker as Ehrhardt & Kirsten of Taucha-Leipzig in Germany. Later, this firm used the code EkSt on its holsters. Inspector offices 101 and 170 inspected EkSt holsters depending on the time period.
