unmarked Luger holster
I have enclosed some pictures of an unmarked holster I have. I don't think its a repro. There's no provision for a take down tool.Opinions welcomed.
Thanks. http://forums.lugerforum.com/lfuploa...ster_copy1.jpg http://forums.lugerforum.com/lfupload/lugerholster2.jpg http://forums.lugerforum.com/lfupload/lugerholster3.jpg [post syntax edited for photo display by Admin-JS] |
Danny, I think what you have is a Luger style police holster, intended to be used for a police issue P.38. Possibly even post war. Nice holster. And certainly would work with a Luger.

Ron,
The holster came with a 1911 Luger which fit perfectly. The luger was pretty beat. The holster and the luger hadn't been together long, it looked like. The clip pouch will not accept a p38 magazine, but a luger magazine fits perfectly. I've compared it to a 1929 police holster I have-- the dimensions are identical. Thanks. Danny |
Hi Ron,
The holster is not likely for a P.38. There is a Luger style "hold up strap" visible on this holster. Hard shell P.38 holsters had a "lift strap" that was sewn to the inside front of the holster and to the inside of the flap so the gun would be pulled up when the flap was opened. At least all I have and have seen were made this way. I am not aware of a post-war hard shell P.38 holster. All I have seen were soft shells. Of course I haven't seen it all, by any means, so they could exist. Just wanted to offer this observation. Regards, Leon |

Could you post these same photos as large as you can within the 200k filesize limit? These photos are too small to see the details. From what I CAN see, it is definitely a Luger holster, but I can't determine if it is a genuine original or a reproduction. If you have a problem posting larger photos, send me a private message and I will be glad help you out. |
Ron, Your WW2 police style holster appears to be an unmarked original, but Interarms did contract some of these made in the 1970s for their 4" barrelled Parabellums, so without actually seeing it, it's hard to tell. TH

Well, so much for my WAG. I'll be quiet now. :)
It does have the WWII style stitch line across the center of the back panel. It could be a Third Reich era police contract holster. Somebody wake Jerry up. I have seen original, Luger style holsters, with pull strap, marked P.38. With the police style up strap. Ron |
Hi Ron,
Here is a link to one of my 1943 dated P.38 police holsters. It doesn't show the inside of the holster but it does have the pull up strap. http://lmd-militaria.com/page402.html Here is a link to a commercial AKAH P.38 holster that has the police style closure, also. http://lmd-militaria.com/page226.html Both of these holsters are black, of course. If his holster was a P.38 style holster, I would say it is one of the early HP/Swedish Contract holsters. They were a cordovan color with the police style closure. Here is a link to pictures of one of those. Most did not have the stamping in the front of the flap, like this one does. http://lmd-militaria.com/page416.html Regards, Leon |
Leon/Ron/Danny,
It's obvious from the photos that the holster in question has a P.08 type pull up strap and not the P.38 type... The lack of the tool pocket and complete lack of markings is what makes this holster a mystery... I think Ron is right... Somebody please wake up Jerry and give him a cup of coffee so he can chime in on this... :D |

-------------------- John is right...Larger photo's are needed to determine detail. This is deffinatly a high quality holster from what I can see of it. I am leaning towards original but there are a couple of areas I would like to get a closer look at. It certainly has been made in an unusual manner in places. The unmarked part is relatively common but the lack of a tool pouch is unusual. I have been out of town for a couple of days....Jerry Burney |
Seems to me like an original Luger holster as well.
The backside with the style, the magazine pouch is added to the holster is after WWI . Why couln´t it be that this is a commercial holster? I have introduced a while ago a Holster in the WWI German army style - also without any markings. The missing markings is probably more a fact that the holster is original - Reproductions have much markings. |
Now that I see the color more clearly, I too vote for it being original WW2 era production. TH

I once had a holster very similar to this one. It was with a byf 41 Police Luger with a sear safety. The only difference was that my holster was serial numbered to the gun on the back. Mine also did not have a take-down pouch.
I felt mine was a commercial holster that was issued to a police Luger. My opinion is that you have a commercial holster for a WW2 Luger, probably a two digit Banner, like a 41 or 42 Banner. Without actually looking at the holster in person it's only a guess, but I do not feel it is a reproduction. -- Bill |
