Late Date Holster
Fellow Forum members,
I have acquired an unquestionably original P-08 holster dated 1945. It has no discernable makers marks. Only markings other than date are stamped number 8 to the right of each belt loop and a spurious but well scratched SS lightening bolts on reverse of barrel. Color is reddish brown that has had a poor quality black dye job that is worn off most of the piece. Has anyone else seen 1945 dated holsters? Anyone have a clue about the maker or the significance of the number 8? Tom |
Hello Tom,
There is a story about the holster you are referring to. I saw several of them that came out of Knoxville, TN. I bought one for $20.00 about 10 years ago. I do not consider the one I had as original. I sold it a couple of years ago to get rid of it. http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/MauserForum01.JPG |
TT, can you tell us why you felt it was nessed up?
What clues did you have or bad feeling even? |
Hello Ed,
There was a guy I knew of through the grapevine that liked to mess with stuff like holsters and things. He was very creative (rest his sole), a tool and die maker by trade, worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratories. I think he liked creating things that would confuse people later on. Ain't that sad but so common today. He bought and sold lugers just to make money, he was never a collector. I have no way of knowing if the holster Tom has is one of his. The one I had only had 1945 on it, but this fellow was smart enough to stamp on extra things to create the mystery of trying to explain it later. |
