Repro. or Authentic
 

The Luger I bought came with a holster, and I never use the holster for any purpose except to hold the mag. loader. It is brown with no markings. Has brown stiching all the way around. Of course as stated above it has a pouch to carry the magazine tool. It has a belt buckle/watch like fasten to close it. It has a piece of leather that you lift to draw the pistol. It has an extra mag pouch with a
semi-circle for the Luger mag. It is somewhat but in my eyes not well worn, not two world wars worn. Looks pretty well made. It has a hard shell on the flap and on halfway down the backside is a hard casing. That about sums it up. I'll post pics if needed. For some reason I doubt it is authentic/original. thanks for your help.

Pictures would help others "see" it and judge.

From your description and your feeling, that if you think it is fake, it might be. But I have a 1941 Police that is in very nice shape and is original...

Heh, the smell test-it smells like leather. I have a Kodak box camera, it smells like that.

I am not so sure its a fake, but the finish looks like someone got to it with some "Skuff-Kote" The thing has certainly been the victim of the boot-polish boojum, which, for the uninitiated, is a terrible thing.

Boojum is a force in the universe that cannot be resisted. When Navy Luger boojum hits me, I am powerless...I just gots to buy me one and I do so with frequency such that my my children have no Christmas and my cats have no kitty treats. Boojum is an awesome force.

Ah, now that I have removed my aluminum foil hat and disconnected the C.I.A. communications nodes from my dental work, I will go back to looking for fine Navy lugers.

It is one of my pieces; I have a few interesting Navies that I have gathered along the way, also an interesting other piece or two. I like guns (Navies included) that have some historic significence.

Today, I spent most of the morning examining a 1914 pattern navy, (1917) date, that purportedly was taken from the house of Grossadmiral Raeder. Interesting piece, but the provenance is light,IMHO, for what I suspect the owner wishes for it.

I would share more photos with the group except I have very little time, poor equipment and am sadly lacking in the skills required to do pix well.

Brew_ha_ha, FAKE,The devil is in the details. It looks to be well made but certainly not German pre 45. It is made in the post Weimar period style, WW2 but has many missing charicteristics. The stitching is incorrect on the closure strap and there are no stitching lines on the left belt loop bottom to hold in the lift-strap. There is no P08 stamped on the back and I could see no code or Waffenampt anywhere. One could say, alright, it is civilian but it still does not have the German craftsmanship it should have. Pretty much the difference between Gucci and Walmart.

You may be able to do a little detective work yourself. There are some angles I cannot ascertain details from, The buckle area for one. Does the thread close up look like rope? Many threads twisted into one? Does the metal stud on the interior tool pouch have any patina or green verdigris present? If you have any genuine Luger holsters, compare them, the roller buckle is generally thinner on repro's. Repro's also use cotton thread, it tends to be fuzzy and white, not like linen which should be smooth and yellowish. Jerry Burney

Well the holster did not cost me anything. But if I were to sell it how mugh would be appropriate, 20 bucks>. It servers no purpose to me unless it is collectible. Thanks for the info.

Brew_ha_ha, I would guess if you offered it on eBay you could get $40.00 for it. It does look to be a little better than the run of the mill. Offer it on the Forum first. Jerry Burney
