Does this Holster Look Like A WWII Commercial?
 

Guys,
I have been looking for a commercial holster that would be an appropriate match for my '36 Mauser Commercial Luger. My Luger has a 4" barrel, maybe all '36 commercials did but I thought I would throw that in. Here is a link to a pretty nice looking holster on Fleabay:

I would appreciate it if you could take a look and give me an opinion. The holster looks a little long but it may be just the pic. I haven't emailed them with any qustions yet. Thanks.

Greg, Looks OK to me but the purely commercial holsters often came with extras the military's did not such as pin punch pouches. I can't remember where I saw it but I believe it was on one of the gun auctions, a beautiful commercial with the pin punch sewn in with the loading tool pouch.Take a look at all the auction places for Luger holsters. You might come accross it.

The holster looks a little long because of how the photo is angled but it is standard 4"

Also, IIRC, the good grade commercials had a leather sleeve covering the buckle body; Jerry is correct about the pin-punch normally sewn into the tool pouch and a rod pocket coaxial to the mag pocket. I have never seen one of these in anything but chocolate brown or cordovan/maroon colored leather. They are beautiful and hard to find. The maker mark is often on the strap.

Thanks for the replies. Jerry, I looked at all the auction and classified sites I know of and couldn't find the holster you saw. The holsters you guys describe apparently don't come around for sale very often or I would have jumped on one if I saw it, assuming the price wasn't too outrageous. They sound beautiful and very expensive. My Luger is probably in a little better than 95% condition with matching numbered parts except for the mags. I have two unnumbered and unmarked correct type nickeled mags for it and I bought a commercial loading tool from the Lugerdoc. I'm not afraid to go ahead and pay out for something I want but I don't know if this Luger would warrant a $500 or $600, or more, holster. What do you guys think?

Take a look in the Holster section in the 2/03 timeframe. There was a posting with photos I did for Doc Fisher of his really nice 1906 Commerical holster. It has the attributes you folks are talking about...

Greg, Come to think of it I might have seen that holster on Collector's firearms, Or one of the other dealer sites...Sorry I can't remember where I spotted it.

Whether or not your pistol warrents an expensive holster is totally up to your collecting preferences and deep pockets. I don't think you can go wrong with buying quality if you are patient and buy wisely. Prices of Luger pistols and accoutrements have risen steadily and have been much better than the other financial vehicles you might have been using. Plus you get to own the object while it rises in value. These items are like land, God ain't makin no more.

Tom is correct and much more well versed in this than I am. He has seen and owned more holsters than anyone I know, so he should. I have seen several of the cordovan Tom mentions and they are indeed beautiful.
