Swiss P.06 Holster
 

I recently found this holster for sale and am thinking about buying it. Does it look correct? This is the best photo that I have right now.

Could someone please give me an idea of the value of this holster? The seller wants around $300.

The holster in the attached photo I bought 3 months ago from a antiques dealer in Switzerland for $ 104.00 which included shipping & insurance. Mine did come with the shoulder strap, your photo indicates it may not have one...(?)

p.s. I could be wrong and might be seeing some photographic distortion, but your holster looks a bit longer than mine, which is for a 4-3/4" bbl. Is your holster for a 6" bbl. ?

John F , If Tom Armstrong says it looks correct to him you can put that into the bank. This guy knows more about Luger holsters than I ever will. I can't say on price as I do not follow Swiss items. Jerry Burney

Pete's mentioned price of $100-$125 for a Swiss holster is correct depending on the date of manufacture and condition. It appears by the marking that the holster may have been made in 1910. Having straps for this type holster is always a plus.

As far as I know, this is a holster for a 6" barrel pistol.

John F, If this 1910 or 1919 (hard to tell from photo) dated Swiss holster is for the standard 120mm (4&3/4") Swiss barrelled luger, I think that in dry condition (some leather flaking) without original shoulder strap, it should probably sell in the $100 range, like Pete's nicer M29 model holster. Original shoulder strap can double this value and if it is in fact for a 6"(150mm) barrel, it is a real odd ball and may be worth what the seller is asking. Tom H.

I just got confirmation from the seller. This is for a 6" barrel pistol. A standard 4 3/4" barrel pistol is about 1 1/2" too short for it. Did the Swiss ever make a 6" Luger?

This is only a guess on my part, but I think your swiss 6" holster might be real for the commercial market.

I say commerical, since only a 4-3/4" luger was in service for both the military and police services.

In both the Eugene Bender book and the Vittorio Babba book; there are photos of swiss holsters for both a 5" gun and a 7" gun...

Since many varieties of lugers were put into use for Swiss shooting clubs, I would imagine a 6" swiss luger and holster would not be un-thinkable...

p.s. I had the good fortune to see a nice Swiss collection at a recent Reno gun show that is owned by Mr. Bob Lewis of Modesto, CA. If my memory serves me well, I do think Bob might have had a 6" holster as well...(am 85% sure on this...)

Even though it was going to hairlip the governor, I had to delete my post, because I let the holster, that I had promised to purchase, go by. It was very embarrassing for me, but that is my own fault. The holster was much later manufacture than the seller lead me to believe. I did not want just a holster in which to stick the pistol, I wanted a comtemporary period holster.

I deleted mine because it was in reply to Wes' post and it was no longer relevant.

For reasons that are not z'ackly clear, Swiss holsters do not command a price comparible with German holsters, even though Swiss Lugers do.

One day, I will figure all of this out, but for now, I'd pay somewhere in the $200-250 range for that leather. Its nice, original early Swiss and FWIW, who were the first big buyers of the toggle top?

So, reading between the lines Tom, this is one of those areas that the holster one day will catch up to the gun.

So the chances are, that good quality in nice shape holsters will go up in significant value?

As most forum members of any length may recall, I have long been an advocate of acquiring excellent original leather. It is rarer than the pistols and ALWAYS goes only one way in value. As an example, an exc original Type one Navy holster could be had for around $250 in the late 80's. Today, if you can find one FS, expect to pay $1500 up.

When you find nice original holsters, buy 'em or you will be regretting not doing so in the future.
