G DATE HOLSTER
LUGER FORUM,
I Have picked up a mint G date Luger, and I was looking for a correct holster for this piece! What would you recommend! Thanks Stewart |
Hi Stewart,
I hope your mint G date Luger is original and correct. That gun made it through about 10 years of war. A mint example has to be very hard to find but, certainly, not impossible. As to holsters, I have commented on this subject before. I think that Mauser fell far short of anticipated 1934 P.08 production but the Heer had ordered holsters to match or, probably, exceed the anticipated pistol production. Holsters are a lot easier to make than Lugers. Since 1934 P08 production seems to have fallen short, 1934 holsters were still available in 1935 so very few 1935 holsters were ordered because the Heer wanted to use up supplies of 1934 holsters before ordering many more holsters. I have found that military 1935 holsters are scarce. I have seen several times as many 1934 dated military holsters and several times as many police holsters dated 1935. Assuming your G date is military contract, a military inspected 1935 holster would be the most correct although, if it is an earlier G date, I would not rule out a 1934 or if it is a very late G date I would not rule out a 1936 holster. My opinion, only. Good Luck, Leon |
