Linen Thread

Does anyone know the correct size and source for linen thread used on Luger holsters? Locally no one seems to have heard of linen thread.

Wizard:

Thanks for the source info. It rang a bell; since this is the home of the Ky Derby I might find a horse goods supplier closer to home.

Hi Ken,

You need to go a little deeper in your research if you are going to repair/restore Luger holsters. The thread had different content in different years and with different vendors. Most visibly is the merchrome soaked linen that was used until late Weimar period by some manufacturers.

Thanks for the info, I dont intend to make a habit of holster repair. Just have a couple of old scruffy ones with loose covers that need re-stitching.

Ken,
This is a no-brainer. Send them to Jerry Burney; he uses the cprrect materials, his workmanship is flawless, his prices are very low and he is a former 173D Airborne guy.

If you are not satisfied with Jerry's work, send me the bill and I will pay it.

Tom A:

That's an offer that is hard to refuse. They are not in the best condition and I wanted to try my hand at resewing but if I can't come up with the thread I'll bundle them up and send to Jerry.
