can a 1936 holster go with a 1939Ã?Â* (42 dated toggle luger pistol)?

Is a 1936 Ryffel & Borns (Hannover) holster rare

Hi Dan! It is well known fact that the Germans used WWI Holsters and Lugers in WWII, so it makes perfect sense to me that nearly any serviceable holster would be a possible match to any Luger.

For the purist, or dealer that is trying to make an extra buck or two on a so called "Rig", then the holster should have the same year as the holster. To me this is just hype!! IMHO

One would have to argue that the "Rig" should have a matching magazine and matching spare magazine as well as the properly marked tool, as well. You don't see this condition too often!

Frank I agree, I think it is nice to have a holster in the same time frame, but the exact year is not as likely to have happened on the battlefield. I think a WW1 era gun with a ww2 holster is very possible, but for a collection, I would want one that is within a couple of years.

1936 R&B holsters are uncommon but not the rarest of luger holsters. 1935 Heinichen holsters are very rare and the only 1935 military P08 holsters I am aware of. 1936 holsters by Auwarter & Bubeck seem the most common followed by other makers such as R&B (personal observation--not formal study). 1937 holsters are very very hard to find. 1938 through 1942 are very common and many makers appear among them.

A 1936 holster is not at all unusual for a 1939 luger.

That is the first 1935 military P08 holster I have heard of that is not a Heinichen. That is important information. Do you have any photos? Where is the maker's mark located? What color is the holster?

Thanks for any information you can provide. All non-Heinichen 1935s I have seen were police holsters.
