Navy Stamps Close-Up Photo...
 

Awhile back, I think Dan Clemons started a thread asking about "proper" Navy stampings and whether the crown should "float" above the M or not...

I think the consensus was that the crown should always touch the top tips of the M...

Found a great photo of actual Navy stamping tools in Eugene Bender's book, Luger Holsters & Accessories of the 2oth. Century, on page 249.

Photo credit in the book is given to a Dutch collector named Nico van Gijn...

Thought I would post it for those on the Forum that may not have this book and are looking at Navy lugers...

Concerning the "touching" of the Crown and the M, I did a highly scientific study (I examined the 8 or 9 Imperial Navy guns that were close at hand and ALL had the browridge of the crown slightly INSIDE the top of the V portion of the M between the two uprights.
FWIW, I know these guns are righteous.

Tony, read Tom A.'s post several above your own. IMO, the picture your link takes me to shows an obvious fake as the crowns do not come close to touching the letter "M".

I took a quick look and I can tell you with out fear of dispute, those are wrong.

Americanische Waffenfabrik I presume. Dare I guess: a purported 1914-1917 Navy? If so, I bet I can guess where it came from (dealer).
