NAVY Blue Mag...
 

Good day,

As I'm not a specialist of NAVY's, I'll ask the experts....about that BLUED magazine mismatch but correct period :confused: for my 1916....I never wondered but recently realized that most Navy mags of that period are nickle finish....

Is this mag correct for my pistol??

The magazine is correct for your pistol based on the concentric ring plug and the correct numbering size and style. The bluing is a Weimar-era add on most likely.

A question about this Navy Serial 1557 ( no suffix ) Would production date be around October 1916 :confused:

Hi Kidvett,

Estimated production of the 1916 Navy pieces was 7000 + according to J.Still; accordingly, I would opine that your gun was a "spring chickie", produced sometime during the second or third month of 1916; this assumes, of course, a "straight line" production based on mean numbers. We know that this was, in fact, not the case, but no one seems to have better numbers.
As we do not have any day to day or month to month records of production, this would be about as tight as I think one could be comfortable with dating the piece.

I dumped a few marbles and sticks in my crystal ball, shook it twice and dumped it on the floor. RE: Blue magazine bodies. Crystal balls mess on the floor says they appeared in the - M - block of the Mauser Military Luger production in 1936. For what it's worth, the crystal ball has never seen a 1906/1914 Kaiserliche Marine Luger with
anything other than a nickel body. If I can find it, I'll check my other crystal ball, blue one that is full of greasy rags and witches' tongues. Maybe these parts when combined and dumped on the floor on top of the other mess might point us in the direction of a nickel base magazine number 1557 or maybe close.

I believe the bluing was done over the top of a corroded nickle body; definately not original.
