Commercial numbering
 

Could anyone tell me if a 1924 commercial should have a numbered locking bolt ?

What parts where numbered on commercials ?

Yes sir, it would be. The commercials were numbered just as the military pistols, but in the commercial style (hidden serial numbers). There are some exceptions to the style of numbering (the 1920 Commercials spring to mind as an example), but full numbering of parts was the same for military and commercial pistols.

Hi Kyrie. Thanks very much for the information. I was laboring under the illusion that fewer parts were number on the commercials.

I shall have to re-examine my 1924 to determine it's state. I assume when you mention hidden they're more discretely placed than the military style, so I'll have fun looking !

Stu, the commercial style of serial numbering places the locking bolt and side plate numbers on the underside of the parts. They are still visable while the gun is assembled and can be seen if you turn the pistol upside down as though viewing from underneath.

Stu, You are correct. There are a some pieces not serialized on most commericals lugers (receiver, hold open, firing pin,breech block,safety bar and lever) that are numbered on the militaries. Also the mid toggle link is usually numbered interally. If the above parts are serialize on a 20/23 commerical, chances are that it was reworked for the military. Tom H.

Thanks Tom. None of the parts you mention are numbered, (that I can see) and it has the unrelieved firing pin so I suspect it hasn't been reworked to recently !
