After playing with my first Luger,an un-messed with Russian capture.Now I'm thinking about how to sneek another one in the house. These things are worse than drugs! I'm thinking about another nice shooter grade 9mm,but this time with a 6" barrel. Any thought on what to look for.

You might start looking for a 70's production Mauser. The prices seem to be sensible, at least for now. In the $800 range. Check Guns America, there are usually a few posted.
That's about the only option for a 6"
shooter, unless you can find one that is re-barreled or rebuilt. BTW, the 6" are by far the most fun to shoot.

Well it looks like I'm going back to the boards. Auction Arms is where I picked up the first one for under $350. I don't think my luck will hold for two guns. Are the 70's Mausers the only place to look for a longer barrel,at a poor mans price? I would like one with some history if I could find one.

Might try this. It says it's a 6". Looks more like 8" to me. Does'nt look too bad if you can get it for the right price.

You can buy 6" barrels from Nurmrich gun parts for a very reasonable price. Then have your RC re-barreled or buy another shooter and have it rebarreled. I think there are a few people on this forum who could do the work for you.

Don't think I want to rebarrel my capture as its all matching. Except for the mag and grips. And the are an almost new FXO w/plactic base,the grips are very good condition Black Widow.

Ones with 6" barrels can be hard to find.
A new stainless is $725.00 and a mint Interarms from the 70's will run a bit more.

Used could take a while to find.

Consider buying a shooter with a rough barrel and getting the barrel replaced with a 6". Hugh Clark on the forum rebarreled a Luger for me and as I recall, the cost was about $100. This is my favorite shooter. I'll post a picture if I have time. KFS

Please, post the pic's. This would be a good way for me to go as I know I will shoot the heck out of it. Something you wouldn't want to do with a collector grade.

Here is a 1920's Swiss commercial luger that I got from LugerDoc a couple of years ago. It is original finish but was rebarreled to 8" 9mm. Think I paid $ 825 or so...if I remember correctly.

Another LF member, Hugh Clark, re-worked the grips for me in the Swiss border-style...

This is the most fun-to-shoot luger in my shooter-collection...

This is my favorite shooter. And possibly my favorite Luger. "It's fer usin', not jest lookin' at". A 1937 S/42 with a cutdown artillery barrel with the fine tune front sight sleeved on. And a Navy toggle installed.

http://forums.lugerforum.com/lfupload/kfs1.jpg This is my favorite shooter: upper/lower mismatch (upper 1910 DWM, lower probably 1918 judging from the mill marks), 6" barrel added by Hugh, taller front sight from Brownells sight blank, Nils grips, MecGar mag with wooden plug added. Next I plan to re-straw the appropriate parts. Blueing is in pretty good shape. The basic gun was $500. but with modifications and postage I've probably got close to $800 in it.
