Strange letters on receiver
 

hello, new on your forum! a frog from France :D and here are my first message: on the left side of receiver engraved letters "Q Q" head I sought which was the significance without success could you help me? it acts of a "DWM 1910"
(excuse my bad English)

I think you will have to post photographs of this stamp for us to comment intelligently...

Thank you for your answer JS, but if I had the possiblity to photograph, I would have done it but I do not have a numerical apparatus, however I will refer according to your council towards
technical information, but I have hardly hope to find there the answer. I have tried to clear up this mystery, with many gunsmith and collectors in France, but nobody could bring an answer to me. I will try to make a drawing representing the enigma.

If I post a graphic of the left side of the upper receiver, do you have the ability to draw such marks on the graphic and then re-post it so we have an idea of how these marks look and where they are located?

If I'm reading Cameleon's post correctly, what he's describing are the typical inspection stamps that appear on the left side of early military Lugers, on the receiver and just in front of the side plate. Later production moved those stamps to the right side receiver wall. That's my guess, anyway!

Cameleon, in reading your first post you say these Q's are ENGRAVED, is that correct or did you mean stamped? To the best of my knowledge there should be only the serial number on the left side of the reciever of a 1910 model, nothing else. The meaning of these markings may be known only to the person putting them there.

Hello Louis,

Could you tell us more about the luger on which these Q-Q markings appear...? Thats is what luger makers, what year, what model type, etc...

If appears (from the photo scan) that the area where the Q/Q is stamped may have had other markings that were "peened" away/down with a hammer. If we know more about your specific luger, we might be able to tell you what markings may have been there before they were replaced with the Q-Q stampings...

It acts a model 1908 manufactured in 1910 by DWM, it is the model of the army (9mm). All other markings are carateristic and usual for a manufacture DWM. That can it help you <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Cameleon, I've seen this marking before which I read as "CQ" on another luger shooter. My best WAG is that these were the initials of a previous owner or gunsmith. TH
