1914 Erfurt

I am an attorney and have -- from what I can tell -- a 1914 Erfurt Artillery model. I guessed this from the "Erfurt" and crown, and the 1914 on the top of the pistol. Various other numerical markings over the weapon.

This was obtained by a widow's late husband while serving under Patton in Italy. She is a client of mine, and indicated that she is either going to 1. GIve it to a nephew, if negligible in value (i.e. in the hundreds of dollars); or, 2. Sell it, if it possibly is substantial in value.

Can anyone give me a clue on the approximate value. The stock and holster are absent and, not knowing the importance of it, I did not check all of the numbers. It has one clip.

Any help would be appreciated.

Kevin, I can give you basic information, even a "shooter" Artillery is worth $500 - $600 in bad shape and I have seen re-blued ones go for close to a $1,000. Like many things, condition is everything and if not original, (i.e. non-matching parts, reblue, the value drops dramatically), but that said, an artillery should have an 8 inch barrel and they usually go from $1,200 and up, these are very rough guesses and if the following is supplied, a not as rough guess can occur:

Can you tell us any other markings on the gun?

Proofs? (see on your left under tech information if you came through www.lugerforum.com) Tell us what and where proofs and markings are located.

There are forms in this section, where you can print out and then write down pertinent information.

What serial number is on the gun? To include any letters next to or under the serial number?

Can you provide pictures, to include side, top, etc?

And any provenance, bring back papers, memorabilia, etc., can bring the price up.

Ed

Thank you for your response. I do not have the gun in my possession, and will have to obtain it for the other proof marks (I only recall that -- I believe -- a "48" was on the slide facing the rear of the gun, next to the Erfurt mark.

I will print out the form and get the weapon to find out all information.

I was thinking about offering to take this as a part of my fee. Unfortunately, I think it may be worth too much for me to do that -- being a old farm boy, I won't have any gun in my house that I won't shoot for fear of depreciating its value (no offense to you collectors).

So, assuming it has value, where do you go about marketing these types of guns??

THanks again. Will get the weapon and information and post again -- may be a few days.
