Russian Luger
I am new in this forum. I started collecting Lugers about a year ago. I am looking into purchasing a Russian Luger. All I know about Russian Luger I got from books. This one has all matching numbers but does not have the proof mark under the barrel (shield with diagonal line across). It does have the right number. The gun was probably re-finished professionaly while ago. Everything else is as described in all reference books. Does anybody out there has a good idea about value of gun? Did all barrels are supose to have the proof mark? I thought I read some where that all Russian Lugers did not have the proof mark, but I am not certain so I ask.

The only true Russian contract lugers are of the M1906 grip safety type, with the crossed Nagant rifles above the chamber. There are also Russian "captured" lugers which may be of any type, that recently were imported into the US and generally sell in the $400 to $600 range. Tom H.

Be very wary. The Russian contract Luger is another Luger that is faked very often. I would seek advice from someone familiar with the Russian pistol other than the seller before spending my hard earned money.

An original 1906 Russian will not have the shield proof mark on the barrel. Be very careful in purchasing a 1906 Russian Luger, particularly one that has been refinished, since these guns are quite expensive and therefore subject to being faked. I will send you a private message with a couple of things you could check to further verify the authenticity.
