Legally Theirs To Sell...?
As an assist to us new-comers to luger buying, how do you advanced folks determine if a luger is legally-owned by the fellow/gal that is trying to sell it to you...?
Thought your advice and experiences might help someone not get into that kind of trouble... Regards, Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" /> |
Make sure you have a signed and witnessed (notarized if possible) bill of sale that includes a full description of the gun, the complete serial number including the letter suffix if it has one, multiple serial numbers if it is a parts gun that is made up of two different halves (upper and lower), and finally get a photocopy of the seller's drivers license...
If buying over the internet, make sure you document the entire transaction in email, snail mail is even better since if you get ripped off it will be considered federal mail fraud by the US Postal Service. Make sure you have all phone numbers and residential address on the seller or any involved dealer, NOT just a P.O. BOX number. And if you working with a dealer, a photocopy of their Federal Firearms License or C&R License would be prudent... If someone you are attempting to do a deal with balks at providing this information to document the sale... Be afraid... be very afraid.... AND WALK AWAY. Anybody with something to hide is NOBODY you want to be doing business with. Better safe, than sorry! Caveat Emptor...Caveat Vendor! |
