Hi Michael and welcome,

We will need a bit more info if we are to assist you. Lets start with the serial number....also, go to the forum archives and see the posting about 10 most popular Ku theories.

Thank you for the info, it is very fascinating to read about the Ku. The s/n is 326x it has a 42 on the cocking piece and a 41 on the chamber just aft of the barrel. The ku mark is ahead of the s/n there is an Eagle stamp with 655 on it, the grips are numbered to the Luger and the same Eagle and 655 on it.

Michael:

Above is a link to a picture of the LA (Luftwaffe) stamp on the right side of the reciever of my Ku Luger. (syntax modified by Admin-JS for photo display) This stamp is common on Ku Lugers and is one of the on-going mysteries surrounding this variation. I would ask if you could look at yours closely to see if this stamp is also present on your Ku, either on the right side of the reciever, on the barrel, or both.

If you could post pictures of your Ku Luger it would help the members here to give you a better evaluation. To see a complete photo gallery of mine you can do a search under "All Military Lugers" and search under my name. You should find several photos, comments from experienced Luger Forum Members, and give you some additional information about this particular variation.

Best Regards,
Bob

Bob, that same mark that is on your KU is also on mine on the right side, also it is on the barrel left side right below the Eagle 655 mark, it looks like it is also on the cocking handle left side, that mark is very faint. I will have to take some pics of it.

Michael:

Your Ku prefix, serial no. 326X with the 41-42 code is in the known serial number range for Ku Lugers. According to Jan Still's book "Third Reich Lugers", there were approximately 2,300 Lugers produced with the Ku prefix and the 41/42 code, with some overlap in the byf-S/42 code.

The E/655 acceptance stamp on your barrel is also common on the Ku 41-42 code variation. It sounds like yours is absolutely correct, in terms of the code, acceptance stamp, and proof marks.

As mentioned on this forum and in Jan's book there is much speculation about this variation, but the most commonly accepted probability among experienced collectors/researchers is that they were made for the Luftwaffe by Mauser, using left over parts, during the 1941-1944 period. Total production is estimated to be about 5,000 units that bear the Ku prefix/suffix.

In any case it sounds like yours is correctly marked and in the accepted or known serial range. Good quality/clear photographs of your Luger showing all sides, special proofs, etc. would help the Forum members to provide you with a better evaluation.

P.S. John, thanks for modifying my syntax to get the photo to show up in my previous thread. I thought I had it correct, but I obviously didn't!

Best Regards,
Bob
