Filler question
I'm going to be taking some good quality pics of all my guns soon, and was wondering what is generally used to fill in proof marks in white to get them to show up better.
Is it chalk? |
White greasepencil does a good job and is not corrosive. It can be removed completely with a clean toothbrush and lighter fluid or other non-corrosive solvent.
Anxiously awaiting your photos... I collect them. |
Cool, thanks. And I'll post them as soon as I can. =)

Hello Todd from Clemson,
Brownells sells "lacquer sticks" in several colors which lots of folks use. Here is a link : http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/sto...il.aspx?p=7778 I am partial to using the gold on the DWM scroll... Regards, Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" /> |
Been meaning to order some of these, so thanks Pete! Took minutes to order those puppies :)

BTW, the stamp "Gesichert" under the safety lever normally has some type of filler in it, probably some type of laquer, so don't remove it if it is a collectable gun because it is a reduction of it's original condition and lowers the value to collector purists... you can use the greasepencil over this marking and remove it when you are done as indicated above... without removing the original filler and lowering the collector value (if it has any).
