WWII Luger

Hi Folks:
Thanks for the help so far on my 1917 Luger. Now, on another subject:
My father-in-law brought back a Luger from Germany in WWII. I don't remember specifics, and the pistol is 800 miles from me so hard to look at. I do remember it had a grip safety.
Anyway, last summer my son was shooting it, (out in some sagebrush) and the front sight must have been loose because upon recoil from one shot, it flew off. They looked all over, but couldn't find it. My questions are, are there different sights? Do I need more info in order to find a replacement? And does anyone out there have an extra front sight, or know where I might find one?
I don't hold out much hope of ever owning this pistol; my brother-in-law grabbed onto both it and the Walther pistol that was with it. Doesn't shoot them; they just gather dust in a cupboard and the only time they get looked at is when either I or my boys are visiting, but for some reason he would rather have them in the cupboard than have his sister's boys enjoy them. Oh well. Anyhow, I do want to find a replacement sight if possible.
Thanks
Ken

Ken -

Contact Tom Heller ("lugerdoc" on the Forum)about the sight you need. Provide him with all the specifics you can regarding the Luger type. He is usually able to help.

Ken, find something that your brother in law would really like, such as a nickled luger or a flat screen computer screen and tell him you'll trade him for the two guns.

There is something he'd rather have, it might be ??? you just have to find out what it is... Or even better, maybe something the wife wants? A new halfway expensive sewing machine, canoe or bullwhip for her husband?

Okay; my brother-in-law says it is marked S/42 on the top of the toggle. Serial number is 9770. He couldn't find any obvious maker's name, and of course couldn't really describe the proof marks.
I hinted (AGAIN) that I would love to find something to trade him for it, but got only silence on that one.
Anyway, if that is enough info, I need to find a front sight.
Thanks
Ken

Ken, It is a Fathers war bring back. Your son or his son will eventually inherit this souvenir. I agree that you should help to replace the sight. You are going to the right place to find the
source. Lugers are great to shoot and to look at. Enjoy.
