In defense of "Lurkers"
 

Hi everyone, the other day I came across a comment about "lurkers" vs active posters/participants. I guess I've been one of these "lurkers" myself. For me it's simply a matter of learning. I'm not quite a year into this Luger thing (after 30 years of interest in many other types of guns and shooting). I find that checking in with the LF regularly and reading the threads on the different subjects is really helping me learn about these incredible guns and their facinating yet somewhat illusive history. And at this point, I don't know enough have much to add to anyone else's comments. I've been buying Luger books regularly--and have a few more yet to get. In the mean time, the information on the LF has really helped me, and is very enjoyable too. So if you see me looking but not talking, it's because I'm learning from all of you! Thanks everyone!

Doug, glad to know that i am in good company. Lurking must not become a lost art.

I probably post more often than most members here but I spend MUCH more time simply lurking and learning from those who know more than I do..... a LOT more in most cases.

There's nothing wrong with lurking to learn!

I believe on this forum sombody has the Will Rogers quote "Some learn from reading, some learn from observation, some have to..." It is a great motto for lurkers. I can't remember the whole thing but it is so true.

A good performance needs a good audience :)

I just wish that the Lugerforum was around when I first started. I could have avoided a few mistakes. Oh well, I am glad that I started when I did. I could never have accumulated what I have if I didn't. I was hard starting because there were so many to chose from. All my teachers were collecting the P-08's. I did not want to compete with them at gun shows so I focused on the artilleries. I never thought that I could afford a navy Luger. But then one day I bought myself a navy for my birthday. I was then off to the races with them. That was some 15 years ago and I now have a small but nice collection of artilleries and navies plus a few others of mostly 1918's and earlier. These guns are getting harder and harder to find. I paid way too much for all my guns at the time. But now those prices seem like bargains.

I was talking to Ralph last year and he told me, "It is okay to pay too much for a gun you want, because in 3 years it'll be worth more than you paid" {{within reason of course :D }}
