Broke dads Luger
 

Took dads bring back yesterday for its yearly mag of 8 and a good cleaning. When cleaning a piece of pin appeared on the mat and I can't for the life of me figure out where it came from. Pin is .095" dia. and .340" long and obviously broken. The bar on the side of the slide that the safety blocks now does not move when you pull the trigger.
Pardon my ignorance but just don't know much about these pistols

Well Jim, that stinks!

I am not sure what the pin is, can you provide a scan or picture of the broken piece?

Did you take the gun all apart and look for pieces that were broken? (for it to fall out, it must be a semi-exterior part?)

Another reason to worry about shooting these old guns (and yes, I have several I shoot).

Not seeing the part hurts, but I'll guess that it is the pin that holds the safety lever in place. The only pins that are small are that and the one that holds the extractor in. Remove the upper and left grip and you will probably find the hole minus the pin.

Thanks all. Fiddled with it some more and the lever behind the side plate fell out.S shaped pin that holds it in is the culprit. Who is the most reasonable for Luger parts? Unless all my thumbs get in the way I think I can fix this myself.

Thor, I don't see the pin and lever on your schematic. Thanks for your help today.

That pin is soft and can be bent to fit tighter when installed. CAUTION-MOST trigger LEVERS (the 90 degree angle lever that the pin holds in place is HARDENed and will BREAK if you try to bend it cold. BUT the pin is soft, if you put it in a vice and tap the end over slightly it will tighten up immensely when installed. Thanks to Tom Heller and Hugh Clark for this tip, I use it ALL the time.

JB, I'm pleased that my suspisions proved correct. I have both repro @$5 or original @$10 trigger lever pins available. They are not interchangeable, as the repro trigger levers have a smaller hole. Above prices include S&H. You can send check to address below. TH
