stainless luger rebarrel
Can someone tell me about the similarity of
a regular luger with the new stainless variety. Is it possible to thread and old luger barrel in one of the new variety? I've heard that some of the internal parts are not interchangable. |
I don't know if the barrels are interchangeable, but my stainless won't even accept standard WWII magazines.

The AIMCO in it's original Mitchell incarnation took standard magazines. The ones furnished with the pistol were very nice ones and I bought several for my vintage Lugers.
When Stoeger took over distribution they changed the magazine to a non-standard one. The only reason I can think of for this was a captive market. Now that AIMCO themselves are handling the disribution. I don't know what they are currently using for a magazine. |
The new magazine is a flat sided one that will not work in a vintage gun. Too bad!

Thanks for the photos Rick.
A very interesting topic too. I am not one of the uninterested masses I don't know why AIMCO doesn't produce their Lugers in a good grade of blueable gun steel as well as stainless, or why they didn't make their stainless parts to be all interchangeable with the originals... I look forward to seeing the AIMCO .45 caliber prototype in a year or two. If they can produce them for a retail price around a thousand dollars they should sell a ton of them... I also wish they would provide the stock lug as an option for those who would pay the $200 NFA tax to equip them with a stock! I would think that new stainless Luger carbines would certainly sell even with a $200 premiun for the NFA tax. And while we are at it, let's wish for new stainless Navy's and Artillery Lugers with stocks |
Have a question for Rick. How did you remove the
barrel? Did you use some special tools? |
