What should I pay for this pistol?

Wes, Just so that you are aware that this pistol started out as a post WW2 06/73. I don't recall hearing that any of these cut-aways were factory nickel plated, but perhaps Mauro has some better info on value. Tom H.

The translations on Hermann Historica obviously are from a translation engine, perhaps "babelfish" or "Dictionary.com". Doesn't do too bad but has to depend on common literal translation. Hence "Lauf" becomes "run" instead of barrel, etc. Gets most of the information across but makes for some amusing reading. Thank you for presenting a much clearer translation, and also for several other translations you have posted. I wish my German was as fluent as yours (I wish my English was as good also!)

I am scratching my head over this one?? Why would a factory cutaway (an assumption) have rust pits on the barrel (and perhaps the frame well edge). If those are pits, I would assume this Luger was used or poorly stored SOMEWHERE prior to the finish application. Overall, I find this cutaway very very nice!

this is obviously one of a kind... and the answer to your question is whatever you think it is worth to you... just make sure it is more than it is worth to someone else if you really want it. (Here is your Graemlin to indicate my wry humor): [img]biggrin.gif[/img]

It does have a classy look about it. IF you are interested in it for the history... then bid. If you are primarily interested in it for it's education qualities regarding Luger engineering and function... then buy an old shooter (or better yet, a Luger that may not be good enough to shoot) and have it sliced up to look like this one and have it bumper chrome plated (Ed Tinker Really Likes That!)... that would be much cheaper.

One of the major obstacles for those not familiar with a foreign language is that "their" grammar probably doesn't equate to "our" grammar... so that it often happens that foreign words are substituted into our native grammatical construction...with hilarious results.

One of the funniest phrases that I fondly remember my late mother (of Pennsylvania Dutch heritage) saying is:

"Throw your father down the stairs his pants..."

This thread makes me wonder if the good folks at the Ministry of Firearms Mutilation, so eager to slice into pistols, could be induced to get their Schnitt together and produce a few cutaways. [img]tongue.gif[/img]

Sorry esteemed Sir, I knew that you were a former officer in the British Forces and the only ones with less humor were some Sergeant Majors! [img]biggrin.gif[/img] So, I was only kiddinâ?? around, as I was in Europe for 7 years and traveled to the ole England isles on several, several occasions, enjoyed Scotland very much, as I did Plymouth, London, and saw Star Wars, Phantom Menace in Cambridge on opening night. All that means that I do have a sense of humor and rightly understand that a stuffed animal in England isn't the same thing in America (a toy, not a "stuffed" animal).
