Mauser Parabellum book
 

I just got my copy of The Mauser Parabellum by Francis C Allan today. It was a bit pricey but appears to be a very good book about the guns produced by Mauser in the 1970's. I can't wait to get home and check my gun against the information in the book.

I bought his book also, thought it was a good one for those Mausers. And I don't have one of them, just thought it smart to buy it while it was available! :)

I checked my gun and it is #336 of the .30cal. in the series 3 which was the primary production run. Nothing special but a low number and most importanly, it is MINE. It is listed as a Swiss 29/70 and has the strawed parts and knurled parts. What is the highest number of the Swiss style that anyone has?

I this book available generally or is it one that must be found on an auction, etc.? Some years ago I sold, with much regret, a Swiss pattern 9mm I bought in the late 70's. I now have an unfired four inch 7.65 P08, SN RG9** that I wish I knew more about. It will not remain unfired, but will be well taken care of in the event that one of my boys wants it when I am through with it.

I bought mine direct from Mr. Allan, he had it reprinted, although there are previous copies on sale in places I am sure.

I looked, but I couldn't find his e-mail addess.

I am sure someone else has it or physical address? Steve?

Your 7.65 was intended for the Italian market as indicated by the RG9** serial number. The entire run was not shipped to Italy, the surplus came to the US by way of Interarms.

I appreciate the interesting information that the P08 I have was made for sale in Italy. Nothing in the box or papers clued me to this. It is marked as a 7.65 Luger, and unfired cases seem to chamber properly. I haven't fired it or chambered live rounds. I am ignorant as to the mention of recent posts regarding the preoper caliber of the gun, but now I'll have too see what I can find. Do I have a problem I am unaware of?

No problem Jeff...A new forum member from Italy (Navystv) recently posted that the possession of 9mm parabellum handguns is/was prohibited in that country because it is a military issue caliber. This is why the commercial 1970's vintage Mauser Lugers were made in .30 (7.65mm) parabellum for the Italian market.

RG means Renato Gamba a very important Italian gun delear. In the 1970 it was the official importer of all Mauser gun. If I remember correctly he produced also Mauser hsc under Mauser authorisation in Italy.
I know his have a very important collection.
I have to visit him in Gardone Val Trompia, the same city in which there is the Beretta Museum.
A good city to spend a week end.
