C&R License?
Can anyone tell me a little about the Curio and Relics license? I suspect this was discussed sometime on the old forum--How can I get back to the old forum (I am a 2-3 month follower of these forums.)?
Who issues such a license? Can 20th century cartridge firearms like Lugers be bought and sold interstate with the license? Is a place of business needed? Can a license holder ship a handgun easier? etc, etc. |
Here are a couple of links:
Curios and Relics Homepage: http://www.shelfspace.com/~c-r-ffl/ Crufflers magazine, forums, and resources: http://www.cruffler.com/ You can surf these and learn how & why to obtain a C & R license and get answers to all your questions. The link to the LugerForum Frames Pages is http://www.lugerforum.com/ License worth having. |
Hello AGE,
Here is the link to the BATF web site : http://www.atf.treas.gov/firearms/index.htm You can download the C&R application and get good C&R info. here... I think the approval/processing time runs between 45-60 days, or so... <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" /> |

Otoh, iirc, somebody here is reporting three months, so maybe its a crapshoot, after all... --Dwight |
AGE,
No Luger collector should be without one. Now I can have them shipped directly to me, and don't have to go thru a dealer and yellow form. <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" /> |
Thanks Wes, Pete, Dwight and Hugh,
I was totally unaware such a license existed. Will read the references you provided and it looks like I should apply for one. I am undoubtedly already on Big Brother's list for my NRA Life Membership, CCW and past purchase history. One more evil deed probably won't matter. Thanks again. |
AGE,
if I'm not mistaken the Curio & Relic License is to allow the shipment of only those Firearms that are listed in the Federal Firearms, Curios & Relics List. And is strictly Interpreted as to type and date. As I have been able to understand this License will not cover all Dates,and/or Models of Lugers. For instance Some newer dates may not be covered or Reproductions or modifications. I would advise that you get a copy of the C & R list published by the BATF. If its not specifically listed therein "IT AIN"T COVERED and IGNORANCE is no excuse and can cost dearly, including the future "Right to Ownor Posses" ANY FIREARM !!! This is as I understand the regulations. ViggoG |
Hello Viggo and AGE,
The way I read the guns on the C&R List, any luger gun made before 1946 is a C&R and can be bought/shipped across state lines... Here is the excerpt from the BATF List : " Luger, pistol, all models and variations mfd. prior to 1946. " Lugers made after 1946 are limited and specifically called out uniquely on the List... Here is a web link to the entire List : http://www.atf.treas.gov/firearms/curios/sec2.htm http://www.atf.treas.gov/firearms/curios/sec3.htm <img src="graemlins/a_smil17.gif" border="0" alt="[blabla]" /> |
Hey Wes, John, and Dok.
The Luger forum home page doesn't open the old forum anymore. What am I doing wrong--or have you eliminated it? |
Age,
DOK has changed the link to point to the new forum. He can probably help you find whatever info that you need from the old forum. |
