Screen width
I am having problems with varying screen widths. Some postings are wider than the screen space available and I have to play with the bottom bar. Is it something I am doing wrong?
Also, is there a way to temporarily lose the black menu bar on the left? Again, it would help deal with wide postings. Thanks, Jim |

Jim, several possible problems, slash soloutions.
1. Depends on your screen resolution. I.E., if you are set at 800x640, then less shows up on your screen. Solution: You can make your screen show more, but makes the letters and such "smaller" 2. Some times when people post, they use too large of pictures and it makes you have to scroll back and forth. Solution: When people post they should try and keep the pcitures smaller than (approx.) 8 inches wide. You can also right click on a subject and then choose a section you want, then it will use the entire screen, (essentially what my friend Thor did). 3. squint your eyes and drink vodka. I'd write more, but my foot hurts. Ed |
Ok, Thor, what did I do? And can I do it after your reply goes away?

Jim,
What you did is go directly to the URL (address) for the discussion pages without the benefit of the Frames that the website was created in. Once there, you can click on the forum home link and then save it as one of your "favorites" or "bookmarks" depending on what browser you use. I recommend entering the Lugerforum (especially for new folks) at the homepage level just because this site is more than just discussions... you can always jump to just the discussions if that is what you want for display purposes or just personal preferences. Lastly, we do not purge the discussion pages or archives on this website because there is too much good information posted that couldn't be recovered if we just discarded it... the only way that we might lose that stuff is if the provider of our space (John D.) suffered an non-recoverable hardware failure... and we all pray that this never happens! In your profile, you can set how long you want to be able to see back posts... one of the choices is "all posts" and you can page through a couple of years of discussions... or you can limit it to just a couple of days and your web pages will load much faster... your choice. As an admin, I find it necessary to keep mine set to view everything all the time, but if you visit frequently, you might be satisfied by only seeing what was posted in the last couple of weeks... Hope this has been helpful. |
Thanks to all.

Jim and All,
Try going to the bottom of the page. On the left find; " Printer-friendly view of this topic " Click on this and you will get a different format of the screen that prints out full width without all of the URL's and the Left Black Bar. Hope it works for you as good as it works on my computer. ViggoG |
Another problem with the large screen is when some of the members take photos with their digital cameras they have the resolution set to "best' or high quality rather than the lowest resloution. This requires a much higher pixel resolution than is necessary for posting images to a web site. They need to go back and read the instruction manual to find out how to set the lower resolution for best web site posting and emailing. I always use the low resolution and get very acceptable pictures. If you are going to print the photo to a glossy photo paper to hang on the wall then the higher resolution settings should be used.
