Luger Video...

I made a small mpeg video of my Luger firing eight shots flawlessly. Would that be of interest to this site? Is there someplace to upload it so others may see it???

Edward Tinker 02-22-2004 11:44 AM

I am pretty sure there would be interest.

I believe that you can upload a mpeg file to here (size is the problem, unsure if you can upload to the member gallery). Then you can provide a link, it depends on how large it is?

Hey Johnny.!

You bet! Pass it over to me in an e-mail (you can use the correct Lugerforum e-mail address of lfadmin@lugerforum.com - which is what I send replies out from to the folks - and I know it's coming from this Forum, rather then another I host ) )- and I'll post it up.. I'd like to see it myself!! :D

Best to you - and THANKS!

John D.

My Thanks Johnny!!!

OK - the video can be found in the "Technical Section" on the menu on the left - or a direct link here:

http://www.lugerforum.com/video/byf42TestFire.mpg

You will ne an "mpg" player (like Quicktime, Windows Media Player, WinAmp with theproper plug-in, etc... - and the download is 2.66 MB..

Enjoy - and thanks Johnny!!!

Johnny,
I liked your video, Good Shooting !
With Camera and Gun .
I noticed that when one advances the video a few frames at a time, there in a perceptable dip in the muzzle immediatly prior to the recoil.
Usually this will pull your shots low and left.
Try gripping the pistol with middle and third finger with the little finger lifted clear of the grip and somewhat pointed down range.
This reduces the tendancy to pull the shots down with the tightening of the last two fingers on the grip when the tension of the sear releasing allows the trigger to release and snap back.
This is usually corrected by the lifting of the little finger.
Just an observation.

Thanks, I'll consider that next time. I wasn't trying for accuracy, I was more interested in getting off all of the shots in the 15 seconds that the camera allows, and attempting to maintain at least a similar sight picture. If you or anyone else would like to see a different angle or perspective, I'm willing to try on my next trip to the range...

ViggoG 02-23-2004 04:55 AM

Johnny, :)
I for one am quite interested in seeing more.
Not only was the barrel dip noticeable but I also detected at least one ejected case and a partially open toggle, there was also a definite muzzle flash detected.
How much more might we see if there is more to observe.
But I guess that these special delights are at the expense of how much time that is available for these things by Our Host "John D".
I hope that he may spare us a few more of such items as this one is As Tony Says "Grrrrr-ate".

Your seeing a limitation of my equipment. I used a Sony digital camera in movie mode. Its frame rate is a bit lower than some to get higher image quality. Thats why you may miss seeing some things. My next thought, might be to record from behind as it shoots at a water filled container, then the viewer could see everything from the gun shooting to the actual impact of the projectile. Just a thought...

John D. 02-23-2004 09:01 PM

Ummm.......

Johnny.... Whatever you take - send it up and I'll post it, OK? Don't worry about the size of the file. As well - if you'd like to do a "live" range session from the range - I can actually do that with a number of video content servers I have....

Not to put the pressure on you - BUT - I know I'd enjoy anything you can provide!!! (Can you tell it's winter up here - and I'm "shooting starved?? )

Thanks!!!

Johnny check your PM's.

Look what I got Here !!!
I was able to step the MPEG Player in very small increments and found this "Spectacular Frame"
http://forums.lugerforum.com/lfupload/muzzle__flash.jpg
Muzzle Blast with the Breech Toggle Starting to Open.
In this toggle position the breech has only withdrawn the cartridge about 4 mm.(0.160")
The dull red color of the flash indicates the ending of the flash, and the bullet is about half way to the target.
This is the first motion series in which I have been able to find this particular type of exposure.
This is one great film strip Johnny !!!
John D. thanks for the reassurance that these types of presentations will be shown in the future !!

Hey Viggo..!

GREAT picture!!!! Thanks!!!! :D

Of course - if Johnny sends me more videos shooting at a jug of water - and misses - you can show him how far off he is from the target!! HEHEH!!!! :D

Great pic! Thanks for posting!!!!

Johnny C. Kitchens 02-25-2004 12:04 AM

OK, I'll definitely send some more. Need a big weather improvement here. Raining day two. I've got a video of a milk jug full of water taking a hit from the Luger, but the Luger isn't visible. Guess I could send that to help tide you over...

wterrell 02-25-2004 02:37 PM

Johnny, what is the bag limit on water jugs in Texas?

ViggoG 02-25-2004 04:11 PM

Wes,...
I can answer that for Johnny... :D
The Water Jug Limit in Texas is the same as elsewhere...
ALL YOU CAN HIT !!! "WHERE NOT DISALLOWED BY LAW"

Here is a frame from the forth shot in the video. Notice the toggle is back, and you can see the empty case just emerging from the top of the Luger...

TOGGLELOCK 02-28-2004 10:01 PM

Where did you test fire the Luger Johnny? That range in Grand Prairie still open?

Johnny C. Kitchens 02-29-2004 01:34 AM

Alpine. The Grand Prairie range closed many years ago. Strangely enough I only got to use the Grand Prairie range once after discovering it 1987. Closed a short time later...

TOGGLELOCK 02-29-2004 12:06 PM

That range is Mansfield still open? I used to shoot there. That place called the "Arlington Spotsman Club". I remember a 300 meter rifle range.

Johnny C. Kitchens 02-29-2004 11:38 PM

I'm not sure. I went there once, but I've never been back, and that was in the 70's!!!
