The Jewel has ARRIVED!!!
Ted Green is finally willing to give me my Luger back!!! And what a transformation! The man is a wizard! My poor Luger (affectionately dubbed The Gypsy) based on all the stamps, was a military issue in 1918, probably captured at some point and found it's way to East Germany and a rework there. The toggle and barrel were replaced and appropriate stamps were added, and based on the VOPO stamp posted to the forum earlier, she likely saw service as an E. G. Police sidearm. But all in all she was in pretty bad shape when I got her (see earlier BEFORE picture down the Forum).
Well Ted has turned this sorry example into a thing of beauty that will turn heads at any range it winds up on. The thing that is also very meaningful to me is, that many of my friends, have had a hand in the restoration of this badly beaten baby. New grips were supplied by Hugh, new magazines and takedown lever (original bent beyond help) supplied by Tom, new magazine bottoms supplied by G. T., and of course the fabulous artistry of Herr Gruen himself, on all the rest. I will shortly be posting more pictures in the Owner's Corner, but for now here's a little sample. Re: The Jewel has ARRIVED!!!
![]() Jewelie was fun Luger to rework and all those stamps and markings, she has a replacement barrel, marked Crown over N that is spectacular. The bore looks like wet glass it is so spectacular and it shoots as good as it looks. This was a perfect candidate for a shooter rework. I hope Dok enjoys her and we can talk about her together at the next meeting at RES's WOL next spring. I especially like doing these for my friends on the Luger Forum, Marvin, GT, Dok and more to follow! Thanks guys! Ted

Super Looking Luger
![]() I just saw the battery of pictures Ted sent. Dok, you should be ecstatic. The one looking down the barrel is scary!!! Enjoy !!!
|
HOLY SMOKES!!!!!!
Simply OUTSTANDING!!!! I dunno how you do it, Ted - but these are truly remarkable reworks...!!!!
DOK - if you are off-line later today and at the range - I think we'll all understand |
Don't I wish...
I'm afraid the range is going to have to be a delayed gratification thing... but yanno, "all good things come to those who wait".

Re: Dok's Jewel
![]() (Using the Thor thingy to bug Frank yanno!)Dok and I both had fun with that project. Thanks to all for the kind words! Ted ooops I mean ~Thor~

OK, Tee-a-Thor, it's still a purdy pistol

Hey Thor.....!!!
![]() Quick Question.....
I noticed in the PIC that the Luger has apparently been rechambered for a .357 MAGNUM no less (resting on that box of ammo). Can 'ya tell me how much of a task it was to re-chamber it and modify the mags??? Also - why you didnt step all the way up to a .44 MAGNUM??? NOW - THAT BEING SAID.... IN NOW IN ALL SERIOUSNESS, do you think it would be possible to rechamber a Luger for the .38 Super cartridge? I know the breechface, mags, barrel dia, etc. should be OK as unmodified - but I've always wanted to try a Luger in this caliber (and the factory DID make several in 38 SUPER!). Thoughts??? (This note should stymie Frank for a bit...) |
Re: Hey Thor.....!!!
![]() I think Martz has made a few, ask GT!
|
Hey GT... (was: "Hey Thor.....!!! ")
![]() Thor asked me to ask you what I asked him above. I'd re-state my question in this post, but some believe I'm too wordy as it is - so I figured I'd just repost this note to look for my previous post rather then make you read the entire post in this post as well - and then go to the post above and read the same post there too. That way, I can be brief, concise and to the point - which should help calm down those accusations that I type too much in my posts..
Soooo.... Whad'da'ya think??? |

Geeze, John D., even your concise is wordy !! ![]()

Re: Hey GT... (was: "Hey Thor.....!!! ")
![]() Hi John! Yes, JVM made some Lugers in 38 super in a navy type...But he had to lenghten every thing and make the mags from scratch.....If I was going to have him go through all that effort, I would have him make a .45!,,,,,Neat pidtol though!....till...later...G.T.

Re: HOLY SMOKES!!!!!!
John, I just put them in a box and turn the crank! ~Thor~
Oh, thats thorable! |
I love the pics posted on the FORUM here!
That's one the nicest Luger pictures on the entire internet here! What a beautiful handgun!!!!
That's one thing I love seeing on the forum here. When someone receives a Luger and posts the pics of it (quality pics). Be it a Luger rework from Ted, or a newely acquired purchase from a dealer, show, or family heirloom. Anytime a picture of a pretty Luger is posted, that's the main thing I love viewing, and reading up on. thanks for sharing! ---Wombat |
What a load of horsewhallop!!!
Tell the TRUTH Wombat and HEAL your soul! You love to see my pistol on the Forum... not because it's beautiful... BUT BECAUSE THAT MEANS... YOURS IS NEXT!!! HAHAHAHA!!!

Re: What a load of horsewhallop!!!
You know dok, that may be true of Wombat, but I don't even have a Luger at Ted's (or any other exotic pistola) and I sure like looking at pics of your Luger too. It's a beaut!
