disassembly 1929 Swiss commercial
 

Having trouble figuring out how to remove the thumb safety lever and the wrap around grip safety for cleaning purposes. The thumb safety is not secured by a pin as in the PO8. I do not want to risk scratching the finish. Anyone familiar with the disassembly of a 1929 Swiss???

No, but then unless really nasty, a basic disasembly is all I ever do, just a good cleaning, and cleaning with q-tips gets everything I am worried about.

IMHO, more guns are damaged by over cleaning than anything else.

Unfortunately, I have never been brave enough to disassemble as far as you are considering...

Thank you for the information. Pete; I did purchase the 1929 rig from my friends at Simpsons. The pistol is a commercial, ser# P26221. It is one of 100 manufactured in 1942. I would say it is in very good condition as well as the holster. BTW I am very pleased with the honesty of the people at Simpsons. I will post photos of my Luger collection as soon as I can find the time. Thank you for your help and advise.

p.s. Do your magazines have a small swiss cross stamped into the dished portion of one of the magazine bottom "knobs" ? Also, do your magazines have the scriptic "P" stamped on the back spine of the tube, near the bottom ? I have two black magazines...one does, the other doesn't...

p.s.s. If you look inside the front frame well (where the take down latch runs through...), you should see a number stamping such as "6.42". This example indicates the gun was made in June 1942...what is your gun's stamping ?

The two magazines have a small swiss cross on the inside of the magazine knob and they both have the stylized P in the location that you indicated. The date in the well is 5. 43, so I would take it to mean it was produced in May of 1943. The weapon and holster are as good as the pictures indicate. I have dealt with Simpsons four times and have not been disapointed at any purchase. Good outfit.Thanks again Pete and I will ask for help on the website that you indicated.

Here is the reply that Craig received from "Guisan" on the Swiss gun site :

" It is pretty easy to get both out, this is from the armourer's manual;

Safety lever
Taking apart
sliding out downward while in safe position.

Fitting
fitting the part from below and switch to safe position.

Grip safety
Taking apart
Take off both grips. Press the "wing" of the safety lever towards the frame. Lift out the notch from its hole and take off the grip safety.
Take off grip safety spring.

Fitting
Fit grip safety spring.
First put the grip safety under the safety lever, then slide upward and enter the notch in its hole.
Pay attention to the position of the grip safety which must be partly over the grip safety spring.
Check functioning.
Fit grips.
