1938 s42

hi
I'm a new member to your board and am impressed. My father left me a 1938 s42 4845 in about 85 percent cond. He brought it back and there is a story about how he aquired it. It is all matching with 2 matching clips and a holster.
Was wondering what it might be worth.
thanks gun7022

Welcome to the Lugerforum.

Collector value is all dependent on originality and condition, condition, condition.

without seeing good closeup photographs or the gun itself, it would be difficult to place a credible value on your father's war trophy.

but I will tell you this... It would be worth AT LEAST $1000 with the accessories as you have described them...and depending on the condition of both the gun and accessories, probably a few hundred more.

As a 1938 Mauser, in addition to being marked S/42 on the toggle, the gun should have wooden grips, and be totally blue with no strawed parts that are normally found on guns made before 1937.

Post photos and we will try and tweak the value a little for you.

Keep it clean, and don't shoot it unless you absolutely HAVE to...

If your 1938 PO8 has "matching" extruded Schmeisser mags with #1 & 2 above a 4 digit s/n with no suffix letter, it is probably a DDR rework. TH

gun7022,

Please relate the story of the capture of your dad's Luger and accessories... we all love hearing them and one of our moderators (Ed Tinker) is compiling a book of such stories...

Yes, I am, and I haven't gotten any new stories in several months!
