Ejector replacement
 

So, I finally got a replacement for the broken ejector on the S/42 which I shoot, at the gun show in Portland today.

After fussing with it for a while, I finally have to ask--what is the trick for putting one of these suckers back on the gun???

Haven't had to face this Dwight, so sorry, I have no idea.

Actually it is very simple. Get a piece of wood approximately the same size as the inside of the upper. Slide it in so that the tip of the ejector pushes on the wood. Press in the center of the ejector to flatten it. Then give a little tap with a brass hammer down and forward. This method also works well in removing, just give a little pry with a small screwdriver and they pop out easy as can be. If you have no clue what I'm saying let me know and I'll take some pics for examples.

Dwight, Not all PO8 ejectors are interchangeable. Sometimes fitting of the center or rear lugs is required. It's probably best to have someone who's done it many times before, walk you through it the first time. Tom H.

Heh. Tom, thank you for that. You made me look really closely at the ejector, compared it with the broken part, popped the old one back in the gun and looked really closely...and there's no way in heck that the new part is ever going to fit in the gun.

Guess I'll have to go back and find another one today.

For the record, the little angled tab which holds the ejector in place is larger...longer...than the original, and thus too big for the corresponding slot in the barrel rails. Considerable filing would be necessary to size it, easier to take the broken part and actually try to match it.
