Small problem at range.............

Took my Luger out to a shoot(41 byf).
Ran like a trooper(just love the sights!);then....
About 4 mags in, it stopped loading the last shell in mag(only put 7 in/ chrome mec gar mag).
Jamm on feed,didn't feed.etc..
This ONLY happened on the last shell(win. ammo).
My question:
Do I have a problem w/ the mag (bought the best,I thought)?
Or do I have a problem w/ the gun?
No big deal, but I am only putting in 7; shot less than 50 rds-took down, looks good inside!
Any thoughts?!

My guess is that the magazine spring isn't under enough pressue with only one round in it. A stronger spring or maybe stretching it carefully might solve the problem. Another option is to put a spacer in the bottom or top of the magazine spring to increase pressure. I've used a cut down semi flattened 9mm casing.

I believe Roadkill hit the nail on the head. His spacer is a great idea that I never thought of. It makes too much sense. <img src="graemlins/wave.gif" border="0" alt="[byebye]" />

Could the mag spring, be that weak after 100(?) rds?
I thought that mec gar w/ the best mag to buy.
I do keep it loaded(7 rds), could that weaken the spring?
Stretching the spring sounds like a good idea.
Thanks f/ your help!!!

My cousin has a 1970s vintage Mauser HSc that he was constantly taking the spring out and s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g. Very funny to watch. Didn't have many rounds in it either. He finally replaced it with a Makarov mag spring that is stronger and better quality.

I used to love the HSc until I shot his. Very pretty gun, but it cuts your hand on every shot and the double-action trigger is awfully crappy. My E.G. Makarov, on the other hand, has a sweet double-action trigger.

But I like my Luger best.....

Magazine springs are like stray dogs. There are good ones, bad ones, some are never a problem, some cause nothing but trouble, some are good ones that eventually go bad. I love my semiautos, but have a Colt .357 by the bed simply cause of the magazine spring factor. Time has shown me you have to rotate them weekly, but then there are others leaving the same one loaded for years and they work every time. Don't know what the answer is.

Wolff makes replacement Luger mag springs that are 10% stronger than factory springs. I've used numerous Wolff springs and they are excellent.
