OT: Blake murder trial

I just watched a Fox News segment on the Robert Blake murder trial. They showed a picture of a P-38 and said that it was the weapon found near the murder scene. Then they showed a picture of a Mauser Broomhandle and said that it is the alleged murder weapon. Interesting!!!! :rolleyes:

The media press, and IMHO, Fox is the best of that whole bad lot, simply are clueless about firearms. One would think they would be smart enough to retain a firearms consultant to do sanity checks on matters they report concerning firearms before they go public and make fools of themselves.

On second thought, I guess they figure they have already made fools of themselves, so what's one more gaffe?

Supposedly a WWII P-38 was used. Which is a C&R weapon, which makes me worry about Calif. implementing new laws concerning C&Rs.

Orv Reichert posted a link to the story which clarified that it was a P-38 some time ago on the P38forum.com site.

The story is that the serial number was filed off but was recovered by the forensics folks (probably by magnaflux) and the serial number turned out to be registered to Blake...

He may have been a great detective when he played Baretta on TV, but he sure turned into a dumb criminal...

There was a tape of him being deposed by an attorney on the Today show earlier this week and despite protests by his own attorney, he all but admitted that he did the deed. His attorney was not happy.

I remember that the theme song for his TV series had lyrics to the effect:

"Don't do the crime if you can't do the time"

I don't watch too much of the evening news but I did see Blake a few times. The guy looks pretty old and physically beat up. I wonder if he is in control of his mental abilities? The few times that I saw him on the "Tonight" show, I thought he was an idiot.

The only thing that he may have going for himself is the fact that he was reputidly a very abused child. <img border="0" alt="[crying]" title="" src="graemlins/crying.gif" />
From the age of four year he was hired out to the Film Industry to provide the total income for a family that was reported to have used every cent that he was paid for his "Personally Uncompensated Child Labor", While they, his family, is reported to have used every cent of it for whatever they wished to spend it on.

Deprived of his childhood he was forgotten and pushed aside to watch his childhood labors being replayed time after time while the money rolled in for others and he received squat.
Now if this is not enough to make a man a little strange I do not know what would ! <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" />
Still its no cause to commit Murder if thats what he did. <img border="0" alt="[nono]" title="" src="graemlins/nono.gif" />
I personally feel sorry that one of the children that brought me so many pleasant hours of <img border="0" alt="[hiha]" title="" src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" /> enjoyment has fallen to such a pitiful state. <img border="0" alt="[crying]" title="" src="graemlins/crying.gif" />
Lets hope that he is not guilty and is vindicated by the court for any personal blame.
He has provided us with a lot of Fun and Laughter.

To hell with his childhood!

Sure Wes, childhood experiences could not possible have a bearing on how someone turns out....understanding/compassion along with accountability. As far a weapon used, no matter what it was, by whomever it was, were in for another round of gun laws!

There are exactly zero childhood experiences that can even begin to justify murder. So yes, to hell with his childhood, it has no bearing in this case.

His childhood is not an excuse for possibly having committed a murder. However when the vast majority of people in prison for violent crimes have a history of childhood abuse, there is a strong connection.

If you raise a puppy and beat it every day, you had better not turn your back on it when it becomes a large dog!

Those who have been shown 'mercy' and 'consideration' because of their aberrant childhood become multiple repeat offenders.
Consider the parolee in Calif. a few years back (he chopped the arms off the teen girl he raped) who was refused residency in town after town upon parole.
He murdered a woman after being accepted in the state of Florida.
I remember discussion of his childhood also.

I am not excusing the behavior of anybody. Some people just should not have children. They raise them to be monsters and the rest of us have to clean up their mess.

It is just in all of our interest to help such children when they are still young enough to be saved and become decent people. If not, they will become the monsters of which we have all too many.

Sounds like a lot of woman's work.

Mr. Blake Is "PRESUMED INNOCENT" By "The LAW OF THE LAND".
He has only been alleged to have performed some violation of the law !
He Is Not Yet Appeared Before a Jury Of His Peers?
We are not a Forum Of VIGILANTES, Let the man have his day in court.
That Is The American Way !
Recognize he has the right of "Presumed Innocence" until He is convicted within the Court System.

Didn't you start his defense just a few posts ago? So we have now started the prosecution.

Hey, that's fine, Viggo, but anything he may or may not have suffered in his childhood is no defense against a charge of murder. Period. End of sentence. Carriage return.

Hey, so he had a tough childhood; he was exploited by his parent(s). Sounds like just another "ward of the state". This is part of the culture of the west coast and New England and fast beoming that of the nation up until Jan 2001.

My dad was an alcoholic, parents divorced before I was 16. Sold all I owned (including my lugers) to pay for my own education. Drafted in 1969 into the Army. Lucked out and got out three years later. Finished college with a BA. Pay over $65000 a year in taxes today.

Those of you who are consumed with concern about what social ills or societal inequities have forced someone to murder another soul need to quit pontificating and start doing some volunteer work in the slums(not ghettos) and prisons. Leave your side arm at home before reporting to work.

Oh, and by the way, I aint concerned about the rain forests(jungles) either.

he was also a lousy actor.
