Who's Going To Tulsa...?

Wondering who will be at the Tulsa gun show this weekend.

Thought we might plan to meet at Tom Heller's table on Saturday, 10-19-02 at 12 noon,...so attending Forum members can meet face-to-face...

Regards,

Pete... <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />

This is where having your photo posted in the Rogues Gallery pays off...

Sorry Pete, Tulsa is way to far for me...

Jimbo 10-17-2002 07:18 PM

Dang Pete! I was in Tulsa a month ago on the first leg of my round-the-nation motorcycle trip (put 12,000 miles on the bike in about 6 weeks). Bad timing, I guess. Have fun at the Tulsa show and give us a full-fledged debriefing.

As you already know Pete, I'm going to be there. Hope we get to see a few more of the gang.

I was wondering if there are ever any shows in the Atlanta area that you guys frequent? Sure would be nice to meet you'all.

Hello Jimbo,

When you have a real bad case of the luger fever, you just start planning your vacation and business travel plans around gun show schedules...

By the way, did you close your deal on the luger exchange ? If yes, you owe us some photos...

Regards,

Pete... <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />

Hi Pete,

I know what you mean. Sorry I didn't get ahold of Doug Smith because I was a whisker from his place in Portsmouth, Ohio. I wasn't quite close enough to Bob Simpson to stop in but if I had known about the Louisville KY gun show, I could easily have switched some towns/dates and made it. I would really have liked to have made Louisville.

Yes, the Luger from Mr. Shattuck is at my Dealer's (no C&R yet, though I will get one next year if it will allow me to continue collecting Lugers.) The new one is a 1937 Mauser s/42, 2nd variation. Looks like a righteous gun except for a little cold blue on the sideplate which should be easy enough to remove. The rest of the gun is not the "gem" Ralph described but dealers always over-rate their products. But then, what good is a historic firearm if it hasn't a dull finish and generous rust pitting?

(Funny, when a dealer says "gem" I kind of get this idea of smooth, satin bluing with just a little edge wear. Oh well...)

I DO need to borrow or buy a digital camera so I can show off my modest collection.

OH! The reason the 1937 is still at the dealers is because of the California one-gun-a-month law. I just collected a very nice shiny G-date from Doug Smith with matching mag (I think, in light of the recent post that most matching mags aren't!) so I can't take home the 1937 for another month.

I know, everyone here is shouting "Get a C&R license!" I will, I will.

I sure wish I could make Tulsa and meet some more members. It was certainly a treat meeting Herb Jim and you in Reno.

Ticket in hand.

Jimbo,
when a dealer says "gem" <hr></blockquote> it is code for "...in the rough".

Gee, thanks Wes! Now you tell me.

You know what. Through thick and thin I still love collecting Lugers and I can't see anything changing that. Collecting is fun. Learning is even more fun. Say, this is fun! <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Brady <img src="graemlins/bigok.gif" border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" /> You aren't the lone stranger on SA Colts and a few others, lots of history in all guns!

I just arrived in Tulsa for my annual visit to my most important customer. I drove, but will be staying at the airport hotel. Have several Lugers with me which are going on the block. Mr Wood, if possible, I'd like your opinion on the 1906 Russian. You should be able to contact me on my cell phone...828.430.1719.

Jimbo,

Another good reason to get your C&R :

If any of the folks in your shop as so inclined, they can easily look over your piece and swap out some small parts. A once matching luger then has a replacement part or two...

Before I had my C&R, I used a transfer dealer shop that allowed me to bring in a hard gun case and my own padlock.

It was a little awkward asking them if I could do it for the first time. I was implying I could not trust them. But for the $ 75-100.00 transfer fee they were charging me, they had no problem and I was not bashful in asking.

The owner thought it a good idea, so no one had access to my luger for the month, except me...

It also prevented the many guys that work the shop from handling and moving my luger in/out of their large gun safe, showing it to other customers, taking the gun down, etc.; which might have lead to some undesired handling and wear marks.

Regards,

Pete... <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />
