looking for help

Has any one ever heard of Luger without a serial number or any markings on all external surfaces other than GESICHERT under the safety? It appears to be an P-08 or Kriegoff model. There are a few numbers that can be found if the gun is disassembled. It doesn't look as if the numbers have been filed off of the gun.

Any one who would be willing to help me identify this Luger feel free to contact me.

You hear of this every now and then. Some shy away as if it is Black Mamba. Any gun without a serial number can be suspect in their eyes.

Some factory refurbishes were serial numbered in the commerical way, with far less numbers showing, but there still would be one on the frame.

It is "possible" it is one that was put together by a GI at the factory or a worker who took it home. I would lean towards the GI of these two theories.

But try to look as close as possible and see if any serial number remains and was taken off by some idiot owner or other person.

The key is the frame, if the serial number is missing on the FRONT of the frame just above the trigger guard it doesn't have one. A commerical Luger does not have as many numbers as a military model. I onced passed on a really good deal on an Artillery when I found it had no serial on the frame. It simply isnt worth it IMO.

I once saw a DWM that was in the white and had no markings whatsoever. It was assumed to be a "lunch box special".

Since the DWM's were manufactured before 1934 it predated the US federal requirement for a serial number and was presumably legal. I'd be careful with it if I had it though, the average law enforcement offcier would probably not be well versed in the fine points of the law and after the dust settled, you might get it back with police property room marks engraved on it with an electro buzzer.
